Hi Brianna, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
Never stop learning and always remain teachable. Having attentive listening and a through comprehension of your clients’ preferences are essential qualities of a skilled makeup artist. In order to excel as a MUA it is crucial for you to keep up with the latest developments in the ever-changing makeup industry by continually seeking knowledge. Understand the products you work with and their various applications to enhance your skills and provide the best services.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Since I was a little girl, I have had a passion for the beauty industry and art in general. My cousins often joke that God bestowed all the creativity upon me, his favorite. However, it hasn’t always been easy. While attending the WCJC cosmetology program, I was hospitalized for three days while having my 4th child and then had to take mandatory final exams the same week. Fast forwarding to the present, I can say it was stressful but manageable. As a professional in the beauty industry, I often work on weekends, which sometimes causes me to miss my boys’ sports events. Nevertheless, I love what I do and wouldn’t trade it for anything. When you enjoy your work, it doesn’t feel like work at all.Working in the beauty industry has allowed me to express my creativity through makeup and hair, while also teaching me valuable skills such as client consultations and collaboration with other professionals. I have learned to embrace my unique style, which sets me apart from others, and I specialize in creating a natural, neutral look with the ability to experiment with bold, graphic liners. My clients are my canvas, and my ultimate goal is to enhance their natural beauty, giving them a confidence boost. In this sense, I like to think of myself as a ‘confidence doctor.’
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Indulging in seafood, especially at crawfish n more is a favorite activity of mine and my Family. We also appreciate the drinks at Ruchi’s Mexican restaurant, while Jupiter’s Pizza is our go-to spot for brunch. Every Friday night we eat at denys for Family time.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I am grateful for these three women who have been my mentors and pillars of strength throughout my life.My mother Anna Castillo, has instilled in me the values of independence and hands on approach.Teri Rosales who has highlighted the importance of staying grounded and disciplined. Fina Garza has encouraged me to take risks and embrace growth along the way.And let’s not forget my clients who have kept me in business.
