We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittanee’ (Bri’) King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittanee’ (Bri’), what role has risk played in your life or career?
Like the old saying goes, “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t shoot!” Right!?! Taking risk to achieve goals requires a certain amount of strength and courage to face fear of uncertainty. However, in the long run, going through this process helps us to grow to become more resilient and confident. If you can think it, dream it, or visualize it then it can become a reality! Being able to train your mind to use your strength and exude enough confidence to take a risk is a huge accomplishment and very life changing. The fact is most people tend to avoid taking any risk, however being bold enough to take risk gives you a competitive advantage. I am glad that I was able to build the skill of taking risks because it has allowed me to pivot and adapt with new ideas and inventions. Even more importantly it has also help me overcome fears while generating new leads, and possibilities.
What should our readers know about your business?
Nvsme, pronounced envious me, is a clean, classic, modern brand focusing on jewelry that tells stories and that is curated with love and intention. Our mission is to empower a woman’s self-confidence to feel authentic to their true self. What set us apart is that we offer thoughtfully curated bi monthly subscription boxes filled with high-quality jewelry and affirmations to help one feel Bold, Brave, and Beautiful. With touches of vulnerability in every design and interaction. I am most excited about being able to create a community of women that feeds off of good energy and help each other persevere. I have always had the confidence to be bold in my beauty and passionate about my purpose. My ability to make others feel empowered and look good is my greatest strength. My true talent is having a keen eye for contemporary designs that reaches women nationwide, while providing quality products and dependable services. My journey to becoming a business owner has not always been easy, my brand story is a lesson in resilience and speaks to the perseverance and grit that I embody in business and life. In 2007 at the young age of 18, I almost became a headline of a young black woman who had lost her life at the hands of the police, who wrongfully shot at me striking me in my left hand due to a bracelet. The experience left me with PTSD, fear, and anxiety and for a while I refused to wear jewelry. The way I overcame this using my experience as a fuel for motivation. Jewelry became a new outlet of freedom and expression, being able to empower others to overcome their adversities became a healing mechanism and the primary goal for the company Experiencing the process of looking good and feeling good encouraged me to keep going.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When it comes to being the life of the party I can honestly say that use to be me, lol. However, in my most recent days I have been enjoying the simpler things. With that, a weeklong itinerary in our city would consist of these places. Let us start off with the lodging place, first choice would be The Moran Hotel, top floor of course, mainly because this is literally a one stop shop! Only if they have the urge to leave, then I will be sure to visit some of our food places such as Phil and Derek, Electric Feel Good or the Amahale Bar and Restaurant. A few other places that I truly enjoy here in Houston are Buffalo Bayou Park, The Galleria, Black Swan Yoga and most certainly anywhere there is street art!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I personally believe that everyone is inspiring in their own way, I have been inspired by Michelle Obama, Beyoncé and Nicki Minaj for how they are able to freely express themselves on camera. I mostly draw inspiration from the people in my life, my mother motivated me to think freely and to follow my own dreams, while my grandmother encouraged me through her loving acts and positive outlook to keep believing the best. Every person can be of inspiration if you only look at them in the right light, primarily because we all get up in the morning and have not given up on ourselves. My advice is to keep going and never give up on your dreams.
