We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Beaver and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittany, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
My business as an independent consultant with Beautycounter helps to educate those around me about the potentially harmful ingredients and lack of regulation in the personal care industry. Women are typically the gate keeper of what food, products, and household goods enter the home. My goal is to empower women to read labels and feel confident in creating a healthy environment for the ones they love most. It is a common misconception that there is a governing body regulating the cosmetic and personal care industry. It has been over 80 years since any federal regulations have been passed in regards to ingredients that are in our soaps, lotions, shampoos, cleaning products, etc. That means there are 80,000 new chemicals on the market and less than 10% of those have been tested for human health. That statistic infuriated me to the point of wanting to lend my voice to the mission to help women find effective and safe products. I lead a team of over 80 women who have linked arms in this mission to empower and educate those around them. Harmful chemicals can cause things like skin irritation, allergies, asthma, and even cancer. I want to help people lessen their toxic burden, one healthy swap at a time. One way I provide education is through my social media platform on Instagram (@thepaleodietitian)! Follow along for tips, tricks, recipes, and information about how to live a non-toxic lifestyle.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I graduated with my Master’s Degree in Dietetics and began my career as a pediatric dietitian. I was diagnosed with rheumatoid arthritis almost 6 years ago and that changed the trajectory of my life and career. I started to make diet and lifestyle changes to be as healthy as possible and it was working. I eventually discovered that in addition to the importance of what I was eating and how much I was moving my body, it was equally as important what I was putting on my body everyday. We absorb 60-70% of what we put on our skin and the ingredients in products you find on the shelves may be contributing to so much sickness and disease. So I found a better way. I discovered a safer skincare company called Beautycounter in December 2018. I fell in love and decided to jump in as a consultant in January 2019. I always said I would never be “one of those girls” working for “one of those companies” but this was different. A company that has a mission to “get safer products into the hands of everyone” and who cares as much for the planet and for people as it does about profit; now this I could get behind. So I started my journey working with Beautycounter as I continued in my full time job as a pediatric dietitian at Texas Children’s Hospital. I soon realized the potential with Beautycounter. Fast forward 12 months. I had a newborn baby and quit my full time job. I found so much joy and passion helping others navigate this safer skincare journey. Beautycounter also afforded me the opportunity to stay home with my new son while continuing to contribute financially to my family.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Brent Beaver, deserves credit and recognition in my story. He has always supported me in my dreams and encouraged me to take chances. There is no one who is more proud when I reach my goals!
