We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittany Martino and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Brittany, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
The inception of my business traces back to my high school years, particularly during my enrollment in a Photo Journalism course. As I engaged in capturing projects and connecting with diverse individuals throughout the year, I found myself inspired. It was during this time that I realized, ‘I possess a genuine skill in this craft. I aspire to delve deeper, making this my profession one day.’

Photography has been a constant in my life since those early days, a source of boundless creativity, continuous learning, and valuable connections. Reflecting on this journey, I am grateful for the chance I took on myself. While the path hasn’t been without its challenges, witnessing the growth in my photography and various specializations each year fills my business with an enduring sense of enthusiasm.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
As I’ve evolved over the years, so has my business journey. It all began in 2011 when I established Toxic Lace Photography, specializing in inked models, boudoir, and magazine publications. This venture set me apart and led to over 20 magazine features. Transitioning into the boudoir industry opened up a world of self-discovery, learning, and body positivity, not just for my clients but for me. Brittany Martino Photography, formerly Brittany Van Beek Photography, emerged as a dedicated boudoir business with a touch of lifestyle work. Establishing my own studio in Montgomery provided a safe space for unique and quality work.

However, after a few years, I realized my passion lay in travel photography, prompting me to detach from a fixed location. This decision broadened my horizons and brought a new level of awareness. What sets me apart is not just my commitment to offering clients a unique experience, but also my distinctive style—neither too light and airy nor too deep and moody. Finding this sweet spot has added significant value to my brand.

What I want the world to know is that every session, whether it’s boudoir, lifestyle, or for my magazine, is infused with love, understanding, support, and authenticity. My motivation stems from a genuine desire to create meaningful experiences for others, and this passion propels me forward. It’s a unique approach that I’m proud to stand by.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to have an incredible support system. My parents have been constant guides and supporters, offering valuable suggestions and business ideas that have contributed to building my brand. Friends who started as models have evolved into loyal clients, cheering me on year after year. My husband, my unwavering rock and cheerleader, has listened and supported me through every high and low. His love has been instrumental in my growth and success.

The tribe surrounding you in life stays through the journey. I’m blessed and grateful for those in my circle who have consistently supported me, boosting my confidence and fueling my creativity to elevate my business daily. While the photography industry can be challenging, staying true to values and craft keeps one focused and honest. I owe much of my journey to the unwavering support of my family, friends, and husband.
