We had the good fortune of connecting with Brittney Kendle and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Brittney, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I can honestly say initially I have never been one to take risks. It did not help because I was surrounded by others who were afraid to take risk as well. Negative thoughts were programmed in my head like if how are you going to do that. Until one day I started praying and telling God I wanted more. My life had become so routine that I had gotten tired of doing the same things over and over. So sure enough I gained this surge of courage and faith to step out and do things I would have never imagined. I relocated from my familiar town to an unfamiliar place I didn’t know anyone and have been rising up ever since. I am a huge advocate for taking risks because it has helped my career and personal life blossom. If you never take the step you will never know what is behind the why
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well I not only work a full time job in Provider Relations. I am what I consider a serial entrepreneur. I am the owner of a nonprofit Faith over Fear Transition Center that is geared toward helping the homeless community. I co-own a clothing line with my son DM27 Clothing designed by and for him. I am a motivational speaker, an author of a book called From Fear to Faith and a talk show host of my show called Millennials on the Move. I can honestly say I am proud of everything I have accomplished thus far. It definitely wasn’t easy getting where I am today because I am a single parent and had minimal help. What kept me going during these challenges was my faith. I would always drive to work crying everyday saying “It won’t always be like this.” I pushed myself everyday and made it work for me. It’s easy to give up but harder to keep fighting. I learned that I am more capable of accomplishing things than I thought. When people see my brand, read my book or hear anything associated with me I want them to be motivated to go after whatever they set their hearts out to do. Like Aaliyah “If at first you don’t succeed dust yourself off and try again.” My favorite slogan is Just do it like Nike
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Wow ok lol so I’m still a bit new to the Houston area and trying to figure out my way around. However anything associated with me and my personality is fun! When I walk in the room I shift the atmosphere. I like adventurous, dare devil things 😊 so I would say try all the water parks each one is unique. Definitely check out everything in the Galveston area. Turkey Leg Hut is an absolute must if you have the courage to wait in line for hours. Krab Kingz, The Greasy Spoon & The Funnel Bar has become one of my favorites. So I’m from STL and I think we have the best Chinese Food in America. I found two places that come close to the rice STL has which are The Rice Box & China Doll. Make sure you try them out and you definitely won’t be disappointed. Some of my favorite hang outs have been Kiss, 5015, Davenport’s, Prospect Park or pretty much anywhere in the midtown or downtown area or even in the area I live as well. Houston is extremely huge and there are plenty of things to do. Check out everything!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to make a shoutout to my son. He is the driving force behind why I made some of the moves I made. I would also like to shoutout Steve Harvey, Bishop TD Jakes & Sarah Jakes Roberts. The motivational messages and sermons they provided helped me get through some of the darkest moments of my life. I also would like to thank my STL pastors David & Nicole Crank. Faith Church STL environment increased my faith to another level giving me to the courage to take risks I would have never taken. I would also like to thank the owner of Mogul TV Global Network Tameka Chapman. She believed and invested in me when no one else would. I have grown tremendously under her wise counsel, that it has exposed me to opportunities beyond my wildest dreams.
