We had the good fortune of connecting with Camecia Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Camecia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
The most important factor behind my success is GOD. The thought of being a therapist and helping people in my community was not an idea that I came up with on my own, I actually ran away from being a therapist for years. But no matter how hard I ran or what other careers I attempted to get into I was not happy nor was I living in my GOD given purpose until I became a therapist. The success of my brand came from asking myself what would I like in a therapist and that has allowed me much success with my clients. It not easy for African Americans to be transparent in therapy or to even go to therapy, therefore I had to show them that I was just as human them and could be a non-judgemental party in their healing process.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
To be honest I am not sure what sets me apart from others because I’m not wired to look at things in that fashion. I don’t see others as competition and I don’t concern myself with what others are doing because I am unique in my approach. I am in the position that GOD placed me to be in so comparing myself to others has never crossed my mind. In the field of mental health there is a need for a variety of people because no two people are alike, therefore no two therapist should be alike. I am most excited about my girls group “Serenity’s Crown” that has a total of 25 members and 3 amazing facilitators Katrena White, Kamesha Jones and Schawana Williams). Serenity’s Crown is a group I started in Aug 2021 for Young Black women between the ages of 8-18years old to provide them with a safe space to share without judgement, give guidance, love and support. Starting this group was very important to me as a black mother, daughter and having a daughter of my own. But I noticed with my own daughter, friends and clients there was a need due to our girls being misguided by social media. I wanted to find the solution and be apart of fixing the problem instead of tearing down our young queens I decided to provide them with the support and guidance that they need and give them another perspective of life as black women vs the false perception social media is portraying.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had friends that came to Houston they would be rather bored dealing with me, so they better research some places because, I am a homebody. I spend my time at home in my bed, watching TV, studying God’s word, playing with my dog, enjoying my kids and cupcaking on the phone with my special someone. My idea of fun is not that of the average person, so she better have other friends in Houston, LOL.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my awesome and beautiful young Lady’s of Serenity’s Crown and my facilitators who believed in my vision. I would also like to shout the parents of Serenity’s Crown for trusting their girls with us and allowing us to help them develop into emotional healthy, successful and well versed women.
