We had the good fortune of connecting with Camisha Lemons and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Camisha, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was simple – I wanted to help others. I wanted to be a voice for those who were underserved, underrepresented, and overlooked. For the person who felt like their situation does not matter, I wanted to be an advocate for them. It is easy to get caught up in our own situations, but to have an opportunity to serve other people and get into the middle of their situations with them, and simply say, “I see you, I hear you, we are going to get through this together”, it’s been rewarding.

What should our readers know about your business?
I am the founding and managing attorney of The Law Office of Camisha Lemons, PLLC. Determined to be a change agent, my firm approaches every case with the belief that clients deserve both strong advocacy and thoughtful guidance. I am committed to keeping my clients’ best interests at the forefront, empowering them to make clear and informed decisions about their legal rights and goals. My firm focuses on Estate Planning, Guardianship, Probate and Business Law. I’ve built my firm brick by brick, and trust me, it has not been easy. There have been times where I’ve wanted to quit, but I remember my why and most importantly, that I was called to this work. One of my favorite scripture is from the book of Esther and to paraphrase it says, “and who knows but maybe you have come to your position for such a time as this?” To me, this reminds me that I have been appointed and chosen in this time, in this generation to use my skills and knowledge for those that I am called to serve through the practice of law. Who am I to quit when there is such a great responsibility I’ve been chosen to carry?

Along the way, I’ve learned to breathe, trust the process and lead with integrity always. I truly believe that you cannot go wrong when you operate as your most authentic self. Who you are in this life is needed; every good thing, every quirky thing, every part of you is necessary! Don’t mask yourself, don’t shrink back – be bold and courageous! The only way you overcome is to go through. If you stop in the middle of your challenges, you won’t see what’s waiting for you on the other side. I’ve continued to keep my head down and work. I’ve never stopped being a student of life and my calling. When you stop learning, you become unteachable and stagnant. Life is ever changing, so we must continue to evolve but not forsake who we are at our core. Throughout my business, I’ve stayed true to my values and morals because that is how I was raised. Honesty, integrity, respect, accountability, and perseverance are a few of the cornerstone values of my life and how I try to live every day. Most importantly, faith is my foundation. I strive to follow God’s direction in all that I do, knowing that when I let Him lead, everything falls into place – even when it doesn’t look like it will.

If nothing else, I want people to know that my story and brand are still being written and I’m just getting started!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m definitely a homebody, but I love good food, music, and the arts. Some of my favorite places to eat are Mo’ Brunch + Brews, House of Pies, ChopnBlok, and Jinya Ramen Bar. When it comes to live music and cultural experiences, Miller Outdoor Theatre and Jones Hall always have great performances, and I enjoy exploring the exhibits at the Museum of Fine Arts. Festival season is my favorite time of year in Houston, so if it’s happening, you can definitely catch me out enjoying the festivities.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My village has always been extremely supportive of my dreams and endeavors. I want to take a moment to express my deepest gratitude to my husband Cory for his unwavering love and endless support, my son, Cameron, who inspires me to live life to the fullest every day, my parents, Othal & Cynthia Dixon, my sisters Charna & Cara Dixon, my grandparents, the late Rev. B.T. & Leola Taylor, my extended family, the Taylors, Fullers and Grimsteads and Campbells, my friend circle whom I affectionately call the “Trive” (yes, meant to be spelled as such haha), my sister-friend circle (you know who you are), my church family, Victory Community Church, the late Dr. Michael P. Williams, and a host of other friends, aunts, uncles and special people who have poured into me over the years.

Your support, guidance, and inspiration have played a meaningful role in my journey. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the encouragement and wisdom you’ve shared. Thank you for believing in me and for being part of my story.
