We had the good fortune of connecting with LEXIS CARTER and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LEXIS, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My first initial thoughts on starting a business was if I could be successful in a industry so big! Having those worries if people would like my brand, the concept, and the message behind really had me on the fence on jumping out there.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Well for starters, I’m just excited to really getting started and learning along the way. I’ve noticed that when starting a business your not going to have all your ducks in a row before starting, sometimes you just have to get out there and learn along the way! I was able to get to this point by gaining experience through various retail opportunities and networking with other entrepreneurs to really steer me in the right direction. This by no means was easy! Just coming up with my brand name and logo took months, and from there I needed a message behind it. I truly learned during this time that you really have to take time to make sure what your presenting to the world really means something. People nowadays want to wear something that they can relate to or that holds value. What I want people to know about my brand is that no one person is perfect…but we can always inspire to be! I personally have always had a mindset to progress, move up, or be better in whatever it was that I was fully focused on at the time. And to progress within a two year span because I believe that with trying to balance work/life that would be sufficient enough to get that promotion at that job, or finally start picking up with your business etc. So this ties in with my brand and the message I want to represent.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Well fortunately I have a good group of friends that know about all the spots to drink and party so I would I would leave that to them lol. As far as places to eat and hang out, I personally like to step out my comfort zone sometimes and if it’s my best friend coming into town then I would want to hit up spots like Peli Peli which is a South African style restaurant. Another good spot I like is The Rouxpour which is a New Orleans inspired restaurant which hasn’t disappointed me yet. Now places to hang out, there’s plenty, but I will say something fun to do would be a place called IFly. It’s a indoor skydiving spot where you can get that same experience if you were to jump out of a plane. Definitely be fun and new. Another place I would go would have to be Galveston to experience the beach and hang out at the Pier.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My family and close friends deserve credit for pushing me to stick with my dream of starting a clothing brand. If I didn’t have them staying in my ear about it, and offering help and support I definitely have got started on my journey.
