We had the good fortune of connecting with Candice Eden and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Candice, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The #1 decision I have made and make again every day is to not quit and to keep dreaming. There have been more difficult days than breezy ones this past year, but I refuse to let go of what I see for myself: Legacy for my children, impact on a mass scale, inspiration and change in my comminity.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am a business owner (I own a Credit Repair Company called Arm Financial Solutions) and a Worship Leader/Singer/Songwriter. I have been singing for over 30 years now and my voice and music are in service to the Lord so I’m considered a Christian/ Gospel Worship Artist. I recently released a single on all digital and streaming platforms entitled “It is Enough” which has been rotated on 12 radio stations and has thousands of streams/views thus far. The music video for the single is also available on YouTube (Channel is Candice Eden Music “It is Enough”) My heart and faith and ability to convey that in my songs and writing are what set me apart from others in my opinion, as well as my ability to show others how to do the same. I have written a book called “Prelude to Worship” which is to be released this Spring 2021 and an E-Course pulled from the content of the book where I will train worship teams, creative people, etc on how to create from a worshiper’s heart will follow very soon after. I believe I came to where I am today due to tenacity. I’ve been through so many things, including, rape, divorce, emotional abuse etc., however I have never been able to crawl into a hole and bury myself. Even if I was hit hard with something, I have always been one to give myself a few days to feel sorry for myself and then move on even as I continue to process through whatever happened. I also dedicated myself to always being able and willing to be teachable, to keep developing myself vocally, professionally, in my business etc and people started to take me more seriously. It wasn’t easy, and many times I cried myself to sleep feeling like I would never see the fruits of my labor or that I was a disappointment to everyone around me. Much prayer and as mentioned before, encouragement from my mom was the pick me up with the greatest success rate! My daughter has also been a huge reason giving up is not an option. She is watching me. I’ve learned to be okay with imperfection. Perfectionism snuffs the life out of creativity in all honesty. I’ve learned it’s okay to mess up as long as I can take responsibility, be accountable, and learn from the mistakes moving forward. I’ve also learned that no amount of opportunity matters if I haven’t committed and taken the time to do the work to sustain the success that will come. You can’t cheat your way through this- authenticity in the journey is paramount. The world will know you can be a single parent of a child (who was diagnosed with Autism btw), run a business, or two or three, pursue your creative dreams whether musically, artistically, cooking, etc, be a great friend, daughter, and still be a sound, balanced individual. You have to recognize boundaries and respect yourself enough to not compromise them if you don’t need to. I also want the world to know that my belief and reliance on God is the #1 reason for any strength, tenacity, wisdom, giftings, and any other awesomeness I have. He gave them to me and it is an honor to be trusted in such a way. I hope my life can be a testament to others of all that can be accomplished when we keep Him the main thing. Everything else falls into place:-) Worshiper| Mommy| Entrepreneur is me!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I think I’d have to take them to Turkey Leg Hut because I haven’t been myself and the reviews scream that it’s a must so we could go together. I’d also want us to visit Waffles n Creamz because the menu just looks like perfection in my belly! We’d make our way to the pier and downtown Houston at night-something about the night-time aura is really special. Museums are my nerd-girl guilty pleasure so we’d find one to learn something about art-I don’t know much about the history of art so that’d be interesting. Definitely find a paint n sip though I don’t drink alcohol but the atmosphere would just be fun. And of course some type of music gathering, an acoustic set, or live music happening by someone we may be familiar with.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I always give credit to God before anything else, but, if I were to thank anyone, it would be my mother. It is because of her that I have been able to pursue my dreams without feeling like I was neglecting my daughter, and, she has always been the one to tell me to think and grow bigger than I originally imagined. She never let me settle for less, and, remains a consistent place of encouragement and direction for me.
