Meet Estie Kessler | Interior Designer & Creative Director

We had the good fortune of connecting with Estie Kessler and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Estie, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I came to the realization that interior design is really one piece of living an elevated and intentional lifestyle. When you take a more holistic approach, it becomes clear that our homes are not only where we spend the majority of our time, but form the backdrop to the story each of us are telling; and so our homes need to be a reflection and an extension of our ethos.
With the rise of social media especially, people crave authentic connections, and want a glimpse into a lifestyle to which they aspire. It’s not enough to post a beautifully curated space, but also show The who, what, where, and why behind it.
Abode is an interior design firm, but it is also an online platform for creating a beautifully curated lifestyle. fashion, food, entertaining, family, art — all these things are part of that equation and all these influences are considered on Abode.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Abode is the digital home of Estie Kessler Interiors. There, users can have access to free lifestyle and interior design based content, launch a convenient and affordable e-design project even if they’re not local, and shop my curated storefront in the categories of home, fashion, and even kids styles. I think what I am most proud about is that everything you need to live an elevated and intentional lifestyle can be found here.
I’ve always had a strong creative side, and love the curating process. As an English major, my mantra was edit, then edit some more, and that mindset gradually shifted to interiors and my world-view at large. I think that in today’s world, there is so much to consume that finding your own voice can be very overwhelming, so I believe Abode provides a valuable service to its users. At the end of the day, your home is your first impression to the world and you want to make it the right one.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
The Bayou Bend Collection is a must visit! The local history and beautiful grounds make you feel like you’re transported to another age. Wind down with afternoon tea at the recently renovated Ristorante Alba at the historic Granduca.
The Incomparable Impressionism exhibit at the Houston Museum of Fine Arts is not to miss as well. Over 100 works from Renoir, Pisarro, Manet, and more are currently on display, which is sure to provide infinite inspiration.
A drive to Galveston is worth it for the seaside experience. Even though I’m from Southern California, I can appreciate the very different type of beach feel here in Texas. Plus the water is warmer!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Having a loving and supportive partner is especially essential when you are balancing a family and career, and my husband deserves the biggest shoutout. Apart from running his own business and often consulting me on the business aspects of mine, he is truly our anchor and the most hands-on father I’ve ever seen. And of course a huge thank you to our three wonderful kids who I’m so grateful to parent and who show us the real meaning of life every day.
