We had the good fortune of connecting with Candra Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Candra, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I wanted to provide quality mental health care for people in need, there was definitely a need. I felt like people needed to see someone that looked like them, understood them, and someone that provided a safe non judgmental space.
What should our readers know about your business?
I own Bright Stone Psychiatry clinic where I diagnose an array of mental health disorders, prescribe medication, and provide therapy. I have amazing providers who work along side me and they are phenomenal and provide quality care as well. Our number one goal is providing the best for our clients whether that be a professional listening ear or therapeutic words of wisdom along with medication if necessary. I also have amazing support staff that make my business a success. Without my receptionists, my biller, my medical assistant, my social media manager, and my insurance verification specialists, my business would not be where it is. I have learned patience, great things take time to build, networking is necessary, and business credit will take you far. I am most proud of my client’s success stories. No one ever leaves the same way they came in. I want the world to know that mental health is real and that is normal and encouraged to seek therapy or medication management. I want the world to not feel ashamed about mental health problems and seeking treatment. I want the world to push this message more. Bright Stone Psychiatry will see any patient and do our best to assist them just reach out and make the appointment.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For a fun time on a Sunday fun day, I would say Bar5015 and then going down the Emancipation strip and bar hopping. For great food and a nice atmosphere Kiss, Joey Uptown, and the best Indian food would be Aga. Trez art wine bar would nice to visit, any karaoke or live band would be amazing. For an grown folk good time I would say The Red Rooster on a Saturday night for 40 and up. For soul food I would say Soul Food by Catherine, Greasy Spoon, and Mickey’s Soul Food Cafe.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This recognition goes to everyone in my life who has helped me motivated me and saw what I did not see in myself. For the person who said I was too good to work for anyone else. For the doctor who saw me and said I needed my own private, I say thank you. Most of all I thank God for every journey and aspect of my life. It was those character building stages of life that prepared me for life which is key with me diagnosing and treating individuals as well as providing therapy.
