We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla Calderas, MA, LPC, NCC and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carla, other than deciding to work for yourself, what else do you think played a pivotal role in your story?
That’s a great question! I think it’s a combination of 2 things: I believe in helping others and in self-improvement. Having the right combination of those things can really help with success. I enjoy helping others and when you truly take that to heart you can have the clients’ best interest in mind; anything from being truly present in sessions to identifying the techniques that can be most beneficial for each client and their mental health. Along with that, believing in self-improvement allows me to constantly reflect on my routines, work-life balance, and my professional training to identify what is working and what needs to change. I think that true success is adapting and evolving to find what works best for ourselves and the people we work with.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Calderas Counseling is a Mental Health Private Practice in Spring, Texas. I am very proud to own a business that truly cares about others and helps them from the first interaction they have with us. Many times, we answer questions over phone and ease client’s worries about counseling and what it looks like at our company. I believe in community and since the beginning, we have volunteered, contributed and helped school districts and non-profit organizations in our community. I believe that part of being alive is helping others in any way we can. A challenge I have encounter is finding the right team members to add to my team because I want therapists who are passionate about helping others. This has required me to have a rigorous hiring process. During this process I have learned the importance of great leadership. Calderas Counseling’s values are Balance, Respect, and Love. We practice those values and any decision that I make reflect them.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
This is a great question because it is my brother’s birthday soon and I want him to come visit! I would start the day by having breakfast at Sweet Paris Crepêrie in The Woodlands. After that walking around Market Street can be fun and aid our digestion (lol). Next we would go to J Foot Reflexology for a foot massage (yes, please). Then we would come home for lunch, rest, and to get ready to head to Houston. First stop is Gerald D. Hines Waterwall Park for pictures! Then dinner would be at Maggiano’s Little Italy (yum!). After that we would come home to play board games and talk.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband’s support has made it all possible. I am very grateful to have married the love of my life and his support is just the cherry on top. He has helped Calderas Counseling from the beginning as investor and administrative director. Thank you David!
