We had the good fortune of connecting with Carli Sparks and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carli, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I have always had a passion for fashion! Dressing uniquely always made me feel fabulous and when starting my business that was one of my goals. I work hard everyday encouraging girls to stand out and to embrace their uniqueness!Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Carli & Company has been going strong for 4 years! We focus on having the best customer service and making connections with our amazing customer friends! I get so excited when people come in our cozy little shop! I love helping people put outfits together! My journey has not been easy. I started from the bottom in my parent’s kitchen floor! I have had to teach myself a lot about the business world. I am still learning everyday! I keep my faith first and take one day at a time. I have learned so much in the last 4 years. I have learned that not everyone will support me. I have learned that you have to find your niche and stick to it. I have learned that having a small business is not easy, but it is worth it. I hope to continue to grow Carli & Company and helping women feel empowered and beautiful!Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Starkville is a college town so this day is going to be about supporting our bulldogs! We would begin our day by coming to Carli & Company to pick out our perfect style of the day! Our next stop would be to a cozy little coffee shop, Strange Brew! Here I would treat my bestie and me to a coffee and a delicious pastry! Then off to the junction for some fun tailgating before the football game begins! During the tailgate event we will be visiting other tents in our cute Carli & Company fits and getting ready to ring our cowbells in the Davis Wade Stadium! To end our fun filled day I will take my bestie to Rick’s Cafe where we will celebrate the Bulldog victory with a live concert with someone like Chase Rice! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to give a shout-out to the few people who encouraged me to take a risk and follow my dreams. I was always told to go to college and get a degree, but school never was my forte! My mom was a teacher for 25 years but also wanted to be in the fashion world! After lots of discussion and persuading she finally came to the terms that a college degree wasn’t for me and that is when I began my dream of owning Carli & Company Boutique! My shout-out is for those few people who told me it was okay not to have a college degree!
