We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Handy Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Casey, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
When I first started my business, my focus was solely on making my business succeed and many aspects of my personal life took a back seat. Over the years, that has changed drastically. I’ve learned that in business there will always be a next level to aspire to, and to enjoy the journey along the way. Now, I thrive off of balancing my personal life (family, friends, health, etc.) with my business! Having the right balance has allowed me to work much smarter instead of harder, and as a result I’ve been able to scale my business much quicker in a way that feels good to me and those around me.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I help influencers and creative entrepreneurs who struggle with navigating the legal side of their businesses and brands. I love all things contracts, and pride myself on helping creatives negotiate fair deals with confidence while building legally sound and scalable businesses. I opened the doors to my virtual law firm in 2015, where I’ve since worked with a number of clients, helping them to secure partnerships with companies such as Coca Cola, Procter & Gamble, Universal Music Group, Empire Distribution, Paramount Pictures, and Facebook. Beyond the work I do with clients, I own and operate a DIY contract template and legal resource store for entrepreneurs needing instant clarity and confidence to legally protect their businesses. I’m most excited about the amazing relationships I’ve built with clients and colleagues over the years, while building a business that revolves around my lifestyle.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Houston is full of great places to eat and visit! Some of my favorite spots to take friends are: Turkey Leg Hut, Lotus Seafood, Mikki’s Soulfood Cafe, Phil & Derek’s Restaurant and Jazz Lounge, and Miller Outdoor Theater.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My husband, Wesley. He has been my biggest supporter since day one. My business wouldn’t be where it is today without his support and sacrifices.
