We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Nicole and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Megan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I love every aspect of my business from the hunting for elements and creation to the photographing, packaging, and thank you notes. Because of this, it rarely feels like work. To me, that is the primary key to any successful business – to be truly in love with what you do. Within this mindset, I was quickly able to develop a general rhythm in which to work, while also allowing plenty of space for shifts whenever I’m moved to change something. Embracing this understanding of impermanence and releasing expectation plays a pivotal role in the fluidness and flow in which I run my business. A happy and balanced business owner is a successful business owner in my humble and experienced opinion.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’ve been an artist in various capacities all my life, but for many years I believed I could never make a living using my creativity and skillsets. That all began to change a few years ago when I finally chose to step in to my power as an artist and natural healer. I left the corporate world (that was slowly sucking the soul right out of me) and became a nanny for several years, which allowed me to grow my confidence as an independent woman and develop my entrepreneurial skills through my photography business and other various endeavors. But even in all of that, something was still missing. As an energy healer and medium, I have always deeply believed in the power of crystals and have been using them since I was a child. As winter 2019 approached, I was looking for somewhere new to direct my time, creativity, and energy. I knew an opportunity of some kind was right there waiting for me, but I just couldn’t quite put my finger on it. I asked for guidance before tucking in one night, and awoke the next morning with a deep and undeniable urge to start making jewelry around healing crystals and sacred symbols. I began hunting for quality sources and developing my style immediately, birthing the beginnings of Mystic Grove Designs. Since that moment my business has only continued to flourish with one of a kind pieces, and I couldn’t possibly love it more.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Seeing as all of my friends are nature buffs like myself, I would take them to my top three favorite places to hike, explore, and take photos – Brazos Bend State Park, The Arboretum at Memorial Park, and WG Jones State Park in the Woodlands. We would absolutely dine at The Hobbit Cafe, Ploughman’s Deli, Shepherd Park Draught House, and El Tiempo I would take them to the grounds at the Menil where we could spend an afternoon in the square, explore the art museum, and find meaningful meditation and stillness at Rothko Chapel. For my bar-lover friends, we would definitely need to hit up Brash Brewing, Axel Rad, Lei Low, and Moon Tower Inn. And I’m sure we would make our way down to Galveston for some beach time and to walk the shops, restaurants, and coffee houses.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to thank Kayla Dayle for indirectly and unsuspectingly being the final inspiration that pushed me to officially go for it. I purchased a few of her talisman pieces leading up to the birth of Mystic Grove Designs. Working with her through this process and ultimately receiving a little guidance as I stumbled through my first steps is something I will be forever grateful for. She was a very necessary and beautiful piece to the puzzle of this journey. To my mom – who has always supported my spiritual journey far outside the constructs of the norm, and whose own love for crystals opened me up to their magic from a very young age. To my grandmother, rest in peace – who gifted me the capital that allowed me to begin with journey without the usual upstart stressors. To all of my amazing friends and customers who all too often go out of their way to market for me of their own free will, simply because they love me and believe in this business. And to all of my family and friends who have always believed in me and supported me in everything I do. I’ve always felt I could achieve anything I set my mind to largely in part because of their love and support.
