We had the good fortune of connecting with Casey Steel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Casey, what do you attribute your success to?
One of the most important factors behind the success of the business is ensuring that I follow my brand identity. Creating a brand that is cohesive to your product but also versatile is the key to every successful business. Having a framework and model for how you want your business to flow, operate and look is always something every business owner has to think about. This also allows platforms like Instagram, Snapchat, and Twitter to all look the same and to carry the same message of your business across all of these platforms. I have seen the continued growth and support on all social media platforms and even during pop-up shops because of the look and vision of the brand. Another key to success is allowing your customers to be a part of the growth that your company or brand continues to experience on a daily basis. We strive to stay updated on all of our social media accounts to ensure that all of our customers know what’s happening within 9th of KC Thrift.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
So I am currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree at the Prairie View Agricultural and Mechanical University in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Special Education Early – Childhood through 12th Grade. My dream has always been to be a role model for others and there isn’t a better way to do it than by being a teacher and pouring into the lives that need it most. My thrill and zeal for children have been a part of my life as a whole. While working with children I have had the honor to serve in part-time ministry and work on staff with churches like God-chasers Church in San Antonio, Tx. And also serve at HopeCity here in Houston, Texas as Kid’s Club Director. Having a desire to work and serve kids in every capacity and area of their lives is a privilege and joy that I have always loved being a part of. Currently, I have found myself working at Apple inc as a technical support advisor. Working at Apple has allowed me to grow and strengthen my habits when it comes to working ethics and protocol. Ensuring that all aspects of the company and job are taken care of is a role that every employee has to play to ensure that success is always the end goal. Getting the job at Apple allowed me to see how your experiences matter the most. Having degrees and credentials isn’t always what gets you the job but having other skill sets and knowledge contributes to your overall expertise and that’s what people are looking for nowadays.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a total food junkie so I would be giving my friends some of the best brunch and dinner places that Houston has to offer. I would either first start with State Fare or The Breakfast Club. Both of these restaurants are Houston stables for a fine brunch and breakfast experience, particularly State Fare. After indulging in a good brunch or breakfast we can then hit the town for a couple of fun day activities. I love going to places like the Houston Zoo or even visiting a few Museums in the Houston Museum district as well. One of my favorite things to do in Houston is to go thrifting. Places like Bounce Back Vintage and Raxx Vintage are just a couple that has the truly authentic vintage gear. I also tell people to hit some of the Goodwill Bins that reside in Houston. You’re sure to pack and restock your closet while thrifting here in Houston there are a lot of hidden gems in the city that most people don’t know about.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There are tons of people who I can name and thank for their endless and effortless support for 9th of KC Thrift. One person to who I would love to give a big shoutout is Zaveon Emerson, He is our Chief Operations Officer who manages bookings, vendors applications, and the set-up and operations of the actual events. There is a lot of work behind the scenes that has to get done such as thrifting, washing, taking clothes to the cleaner, and all this couldn’t be done without my right-hand man. Running a small business is indeed a lot of work and for me having a Job at Apple Inc. it’s crucial to have people around you who support the vision and the dream of your business and just to have someone in my corner that does that to 100% every timer is truly amazing and I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the World because ultimately it does take a village to grow a business and I’m proud of my team for how far we have come and where we’re going.
