We had the good fortune of connecting with Cassandra Bohne-Linnard and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Cassandra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I actually don’t believe I chose an artistic career, I believe it chose me. I have been painting as a hobby since my early college years. I found painting to be very therapeutic and continued painting oils and acrylics throughout my entire corporate career. It was just so enjoyable and second nature that it was just a part of my life, an essential part of me. It wasn’t until I retired from the corporate world that I was able to fully focus on my art and I began exploring different avenues and new artistic visions. Immediately after leaving corporate, the transition from my art serving as a hobby to a solid business was so seamless that it really felt like it was meant to be.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have painted using oils and acrylics for over 20 years but it wasn’t until about 5 years ago that I started using real, preserved butterflies in my artwork. My butterfly art was very exploratory and I tried lots of different platforms. I kept striving for originality, striving to improve and to wow. I eventually designed a functioning wall clock accented with real preserved butterflies. My line of butterfly clocks stood out from the rest of my art for many reasons. The butterfly clocks are incredibly unique, they are both functional and beautiful works of art and the butterflies are preserved to last a lifetime making the clocks true heirloom pieces. My butterfly clocks took off and I immediately obtained a patent for them since they were so sought after and unique. I am very proud to have contributed something so extraordinarily different to the art world. I am incredibly thankful to everyone who has supported and encouraged me. As an artist, you never know what the reception will be to your art or your work, especially when it is vastly different than the status quo; but there were many out there who saw what I had to offer and embraced it. For that I will always be grateful.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Houston Museum of Natural Science Houston Museum of Fine Art
Contemporary Art Museum
Galveston
Kemah Boardwalk
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank the Houston Museum of Natural Science for all the support and encouragement they have given me. The museum sells my line of butterfly clocks and has had a great deal of faith in me and my line. As a native Houstonian, museum trips have been a part of my life since early childhood. It is an honor to be affiliated with the museum, a dream.
