We had the good fortune of connecting with Jay Gonzalez and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jay, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
I think taking risks is very important in my career and in life. I feel that no great rewards are achieved without taking risks. I knew that if I wanted to own my own business and provide for my family in greater portions I was going to have to let go of the steady paycheck and the mentality of working for someone else. I took that risk so that I could build a brand not only for my career but so that my kids could grow up with my same mentality of being your own boss and becoming the best in the business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am most proud of the feedback I have gotten from my client. I believe that customer satisfaction is the most important thing in my field I not only sell my skills as a very detailed home remodeler but I also sell an experience that lets my clients feel comfortable and know that I will be on site every single day to minimize any miscommunication. Honesty and transparency is important to me. My clients and their satisfaction is my number one priority.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here in Houston there’s so much to do but some of my favorite things to do is going to watch the Houston Astros, taking my kids and family to the water parks or hanging out in Kemah or Galveston. We love going to Italian restaurants and having authentic Mexican food but love most going to longhorn steakhouse and eating steak.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to say my wife has really been the backbone of my success. She has been the one to encourage and believe in me. I always knew I had the skills I just needed the push and she has been my biggest fan. I also like to listen to Les Brown’s motivational speeches and learn from my mistakes. Last but certainly not least I have God to thank when I was at mo lowest I always knew he had a plan for me and just believing in him and trusting his path has led me to where I’m at.
