We had the good fortune of connecting with Celia Zaga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Celia, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Honestly I wouldn’t be where I am today without all my mentors the people that believed in me and my art, especially Jessica Lee Goldyn one of my closest friends and my mentor, she believed in me before I believed in myself, took me under her wing, i’ve been training with her for the past 2 years and she’s just shown me everything, the importance of working on my craft, as much as being a nice and kind human will open all the doors and I owe her everything, and I definitely wouldn’t be here without her, she’s one of the people that I hold near and dear.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I think i’m an artist whose journey is very interesting, I decided to pack up my life and move to a new country, embracing the challenges of a completely different environment. With unwavering determination, I honed my craft by learning some new skills because I grew up in Mexico City and we don’t have a lot of musical theater experiences there so to pursue my dream I had to adapt be resilient and fight for what I wanted . I’m very committed to continuous improvement and I believe that if you keep showing up the growth is evident in every performance, and I constantly strive to refine my skills and push my artistic boundaries. I believe my story is a testament to my passion, perseverance, and talent.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to a Broadway show, to me art is the most beautiful and special thing! there’s something about the live performances and the magic of being transported to a different world for a period of time! but i would also take them to Riverside park there’s something so calming and peaceful being next to the water in the beautiful green park and getting a delicious iced latte at Slate my favorite local coffee shop

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Jessica Lee Goldyn, again she believed in me before I believed in myself, she helped me gain confidence in myself, pushed me to work harder and fight for my dreams to never give up and be the best version of myself besides being my teacher and mentor she’s my friend, one the most important people in my life i’ve learned so much from her and im so lucky and so grateful to have her in my life
