We had the good fortune of connecting with Chance Cessna and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chance, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born and raised in Chicago, IL and was raised by a single father. My mother became ill when I was 8 years old so my father stepped up and took the responsibility and raised my brother, sister, and I. Seeing my father work hard to provide for us inspired this resilience in me to never quit. I wanted to become just like my dad who was an entrepreneur. I wanted to work hard to become successful and I was determined not to allow any obstacles to stand in my way. I am so grateful for my father’s presence in my life because it has made me who I am today.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
In 2017, I lost everything and became homeless. I was sleeping in my 2005 Dodge Stratus, taking showers at Planet Fitness gym, and was at my lowest. I couldn’t see a way out so I began to speak my way out. This was a defining moment in my life where I truly learned to power of words. Everyday I slept in my car I would confess “Im going from the pit to the palace”. I would drive around wealthy neighborhoods and began to speak “I am wealthy”, “I am prosperous”, “I am a future billionaire”….and so on. I used my words to redefine my reality. Not long after, a family that lived in one of the most prominent neighborhoods in America, heard that I was sleeping in my car and invited me into their home. I literally went from sleeping in my car to sleeping in a beautiful mansion that overlooked the mountains of Los Angeles. I moved to Bel Air. From that moment on everything began to change dramatically in my life.

I began to focus fully on becoming an entrepreneur. I started doing Airbnb and I loved it. Business began to take off and ever since my life has been nothing short of a miracle. I have had some of the most amazing experiences and turn-arounds in my life. I am now a successful entrepreneur who is multi-six-figure earner. I give back by teaching people business and entreprenurship and coaching people to success using the skills I learned when I basically had nothing in life.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Some of my favorite places in Houston are the Post Oak Hotel, Maestro’s Steakhouse, Grace’s, and Trez Art & Wine Bar. You can’t go wrong with any of those options. The Wonder Bar is also super cool and fun to go to on a night out with friends.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have had many teachers and mentors in my life that have helped me get to where I am today. From my family, to school teachers, to my church family, college professors, work colleagues, and more. They have all collectively made such a wonderful impact on my life and encouraged me to not give up even during my darkest of times.
