We had the good fortune of connecting with Chanel Drip and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chanel, why did you pursue a creative career?
Since I was a young girl I have always been a poet, and author. I have always found an emotional release every time I created something new! There are videos of me when I was around six or seven years old and I was rapping to Missy Elliot‘s song “Bossy”, Fergie’s song “Glamorous” and more! So you could say I have always had a deep love for music and especially performing.

As I got older I lost touch with that creative side of me and focused on entrepreneurship and financial literacy. I am a big proponent of never ending your education and always looking for more ways to enrich yourself as an individual. But during 2020 when COVID-19 made its way to the United States, the life changes I personally had to go through were just astronomical. I had no idea how to cope with it, and I was in a depressive state.

I will never forget me and my best friend Izzy Iz were at a pond one day and we were both reciting poetry in nature. Izzy Iz performs phenomenal spoken word and I needed a way to express myself, so I was trying spoken word out for myself. But it didn’t give me the release that I usually would get when I used to write poetry, and I expressed that to her. She suggested that I try rapping because she thought that it would be something I would excel at.

I took her advice on that day and wrote two songs. One of which is my first single called “Chanel Drip” on all platforms. I had locked myself in the bathroom, had a bubble bath, had my candles lit, and the words were just flowing. After creating the songs I felt so much lighter and focused.
I never stopped making music since that day.

The longer I was in the industry the more I realized how divided and gated the music industry was. I realize how hard it is for upcoming artist to get support; whether it is with streams, funding, or mentorship it is difficult. I knew that with my love and passion for music that I wanted to create a space where creatives can come together to help each other rise. To remind each other why we put in the long hours, the money, and most importantly the time.

I pursue this career because it can be life-changing not only for me as the artist, but for my fans as well. On my Instagram lives I cover many topics like: The life of an upcoming artist, mental health, affirmations and manifestation, and many more. Every time one of my fans reaches out to me and tells me how my music or my words have helped them love parts of themselves, it makes all the sacrifices that I’ve gone through worth it.

I love music, and I love bringing people peace. This career was meant for me.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
The biggest thing I am proud of when it comes to my music is my versatility. I am able to create a wide variety of different sounds not only for myself but for other artists as well! I can write about any topic and that can be difficult to master. Nothing ever comes easy and the same goes for my progression in my career.

However, the key to my growth has been very simple. I gave 100% of myself to my music; I never stop practicing, I never stop making new songs, and I never stop networking with new creatives. The biggest lesson I’ve learned is to always build genuine relationships with the individuals I work with. Making music is such an intimate process. It’s always better when everyone knows each other and genuinely cares about each other.

I want people to understand the complexities that I experience in my everyday life and explain how I conquer it all. I thought a lot about the message I wanted to push to my fans and supporters. The year 2022 has shown me that I want to remind people that we can rise above it all. Life has been so different for me these past few years; and I have come to a space where I am okay, and proud of the growth I have made. I want to scream all night into the mic and talk about the trials and tribulations I have faced and how I have conquered it all. I want to remind everyone that they can do it too. Be loud and proud about who you are and where you’re from. You are worthy of the peace of mind in knowing you are okay today.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Let me tell you about me and my bestie’s dream week! I would book us a flight to Denver! Our first two days will be spent looking at the scenery. I’m talking about a trip to see the mountains and riding horses in the woods. We would go on a trail walk or find a river to camp out at for a day. While at the river we would write music, poetry, and paint what is on our minds. On our 3rd and 4th days, we would visit the coolest restaurants, parks, and stores! This goes without saying, but we will have the cameras out and our heels on! Days 5 and 6 we would visit a resort in the mountains to relax from our trip, and we would discuss what our goals were for our return home. On Day 7 we will hit a coffee shop before we check out and talk about our next trip before catching our flight back home!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Shout out to my family for always supporting my dreams and aspirations. Without you guys I would not be able to push as hard as I do. Shout out to my friends for always having my back, For working with me, and helping me reach my vision. Special shout out to: the most amazing best friend I could ever ask for Izzy Iz, my amazing hard-working manager Lil Rvssia, and my biggest supporter Jr.

I wish nothing but love, success, and abundance for everyone.
