We had the good fortune of connecting with Charissa Wylie and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Charissa, how has your perspective on work-life balance evolved over time?
When I first started Elegant Eats and Events at the end of 2020 the business consumed all of my time. Because I was trying to build my clientele and get the business name out there I would take every order that came in, any day of the week! I was WORK WORK WORK 24/7. However this is not sustainable not only for balancing my family life but also for my mental health.
I had to take a step back and remember that being a wife and mom should still come first, even though most of my events are on the weekends! I tend to pack a couple weekends a month FULL of multiple events and orders and then have one weekend a month off so I can enjoy my time with my family.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets Elegant Eats and Events apart from other Charcuterie Businesses is definitely my attention to detail and sourcing some of the most delicious ingredients. It’s just me, I don’t have any employees so I am able to ensure that the quality of every board and grazing table is perfect and consistent every single time. It might drive some people crazy but I won’t send out anything unless I go over it meticulously first. This is my passion and I want to make sure what I share with the world is something I’m proud of each and every time.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
This is actually a great question because my husband and I get asked this often! One of our favorite things to do is try new and local. One of our favorite pockets of Houston is EaDo, (East Downtown).
From Truck Yard to 8th Wonder Brewery to Nancy’s Hustle you really can’t go wrong!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be here today with out the support of so many people in local Moms & Woman’s Business Groups. When they say Word of Mouth is the best advertising they’re definitely not wrong! I was recently voted First Place for Charcuterie in a local Networking Group, WGNO – Woodlands Girls Night Out.
For those that might not be familiar with this group, it’s a local Facebook group with over 24,000 Members, all there to support each other and give advice on all aspects of life.
