We had the good fortune of connecting with Charles Baldwin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charles, what role has risk played in your life or career?
For me, risk taking is a “must” in order to be truly successful in whatever you’re pursuing. There’s risk/reward in almost everything that you do: ultimately are you going to go into it thinking of “what can go wrong” or “what can go right”? If I’d never taken any risk, I wouldn’t have chosen to move out of state for college to play basketball, never would have left a comfortable job, nor would I have spent a ton of money on camera gear with faith that I could become a good photographer.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
For my main job, I am an Account Executive in the Oil & Gas world. As a Business Major coming out of college, going into Sales was the ideal fit , seeing that I enjoy the challenge of presenting a product/service of value, and being able to provide client satisfaction. The good thing, this definitely transfers to what I do as a photographer: understanding the client’s vision, and making it come to life, ultimately leaving them satisfied.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
With two jobs and two kids, I hardly get out as much as I used to! Typically I would always recommend the Galleria for shopping at great stores, I would definitely recommend checking out a Rockets/Texans/Astros game, checking out the Rodeo in March, and even bar hopping in Midtown lol.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
First I would like to shoutout my niece Dariane Jackson (@SlayWithDJ) who recommended me for Voyage, which highlighted my skills locally on the Houston scene. Personally my initial support has been my wife Brittany, who pushed me into taking the first step in getting a legitimate camera. My mentorship comes from my good friend Sylvester Agbahiwe (@soa.digital.imaging) who took me under his wing and truly help me flourish in the photography world. Thanks to everyone who has supported my work, and allowed me to create great memories for them!
