We had the good fortune of connecting with Carla Horton and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Carla, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My thought process behind starting my own business was to address my personal void of not being able to find clip on earrings that fit my personal style. Later on, I realized that I could help fill this void for other women like myself by making and selling my own jewelry designs.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Inherit Jewelry offers custom handmade beaded jewelry and accessories. There are a couple of things that make us unique. We offer custom ordered jewelry and ready made items. We offer 90%-100% of our earring selection as both clip on and pierced. We also service the whole family – men, women, and children. I’m excited about how we have been able to connect with people through jewelry. People don’t have to shop with you once so to have people shop with us on multiple occasions is an amazing feeling. Owning a business is not easy work but it’s rewarding work. I’ve learned that consistency is a must. Your business will only go as far as you take it. I want the world to know that I’m just a girl trying to accessorize the world one person at a time.

Any great local spots you’d like to shoutout?
My ideal girls trip in Houston would include music, food, and fun. First up, a trip to Essential Body Bar for massages and facials. My friends and I love live music. For this, we are heading to Alley Kat or Phil & Derek’s. Most importantly, we must eat! Lucille’s, Turkey Leg Hut, The Breakfast Klub, and Taste Bar & Kitchen are the spots for great food while in the H.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First, I have to give honor to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. I would not even be able to operate this business without Him. I would like to shoutout Zetta Denson of Champion Writing. Her company has helped navigate me from the hobby stage of jewelry making into the established business I have today. Lastly, I have amazing family, friends, and customers that whole heartedly support my efforts and I couldn’t be more grateful.
