We had the good fortune of connecting with Charli Matthews and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Charli, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
Empowering Brands empowers people and industry through digital media and marketing services. Empowering Pumps & Equipment is our media platform and community that we use to connect, inform, and educate the industry to make a better workforce. Storytelling is a key component for growth and change, and our business helps the pump and related equipment manufacturers amplify their story.

What should our readers know about your business?
This is our 10th year in business and we are celebrating! Having said that, it was a journey. There were highs and lows. The company started as a way for me to continue my career in the pump industry and have a job for myself. We now support a team and their career goals. What sets us apart is the focus on people. Our team has a unique way to see the value in others and help them develop. It could be developing their personal brand, marketing campaigns, or my favorite… Leadership skills! The top lesson I have learned is that you have to know why you are in business, what is your purpose, and what are you trying to accomplish. The only way you can know those things is to take time to learn them. Spending time on your business strategy is what makes the execution of the goals more attainable. Take the time to make the plan and to tell your story.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite place in Houston is the Grove. As a frequent visitor to the GRB, the Grove and the beautiful art displayed gives me joy! I feel safe and like I am with friends at any time I walk around the square!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Rob Kalwarowsky was my leadership coach. He helped me to see the leader within and I will forever be grateful to the way he shared his journey with me.

Rob is on a mission to spread the message of people-centric leadership & the importance of mental health throughout the world. Rob envisions a world where happiness, inclusion, psychological safety & engagement are commonplace in the workplace.
