Meet Chelsea Markle | Tattoo Artist and Body Piercer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Markle and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I want to make an ever-lasting connection to my clients, rhetorical art piece they inspired me to create for them to honor what it means to them and their own story as well behind it. I truly adore spending quality time listening, supporting, and caring about my clients like family throughout the years. It truly embarks all of the love I put into the designs specifically performed for them to hold onto forever with a magical memory.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Tattooing and piercing people is a more intimate form of art and expression that I do everyday with so much passion.
I would definitely like to believe that my art is different illustration, design, and vision based on the trust of my clients. I love to input the most delicate and unique details that resonates with the clients story behind their tattoo and give it a pinch of my own magic to make it light their heart and face with true happiness.
I’m incredibly proud and excited about the years I have dedicated into this industry, the conventions, the collaborations, and friendships among other artists as well.
I spent time in college working on my bachelor’s in fine arts and education, but knee deep down that tattooing was my ultimate dream. It involves so much devotion, education, and time that I wanted to implement as an educator as well. I took the risk of resigning from my position in the education field when I was apprenticing as an artist in order to do it full time.
It was incredibly difficult when it came to less time with family, my partner, and other activities I loved to do. I had to overcome challenges with certain people in my industry that could be destructive towards others, and learn to build more strength to allow myself to succeed despite the negativity as a female artist. I chose to work harder and push myself to believe in myself with so much encouragement from those around me.
I would definitely say the most important lessons I have learned would be: take your time and be patient, focus on your steadiness and resilience, trust people that are like minded and want the same things as you, and never let anyone tell you they can’t do something because you can if you work hard for it!

I want to share with everyone that despite the obstacles I have faced with my partner tragically dying and having a newborn, there has not been one moment I would change dedicating myself more to improving and sharing my craft. Anyone that is willing to crush your light and character is not worthy of it, and you can truly be the most beautiful and magical version of yourself as long as you believe that. Your art, your words, and presence as an artist can influence and change a person’s whole life when you make such an impressive and beautiful mark for them to remember forever. That is why I believe in tattoos being magic!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely recommend our museum art district. The city is covered in beautiful and unique work.
Such as: Notsuoh – Downtown Houston, The Centennial Gardens, The Houston Arboretum, Smither Park, and Discovery Green.
Places to drink with a view: Z on 23 Rooftop bar is the most breath taking view of the city, Notsuoh has beautiful cocktails, Rabbits got the Gun, Barbarella’s Emo Night, Dean’s Downtown, Zenaku Downtown is a beautiful and fun anime bar with great aesthetics, drinks, and music.
Placed to eat: Gen Korean BBQ House, Korny Vibes for a vegan option, Pinkerton’s BBQ, TJ Birria y Mas, and Post HTX for food and art as well.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The beauty of my story and success as an artist is that every client, friend, and family member in my life deserves to be recognized for all of their support. I am so incredibly proud and thankful for the continued referrals and remarkable encouragement with my art, life, and motherhood.
