We had the good fortune of connecting with Chelsea Wynder, BSN, RN and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Chelsea, how does your business help the community?
Sharing my story as a Nurse with Multiple Sclerosis and introducing my Wellness Diaries for women has impacted the chronically ill community tremendously. Finally speaking publicly about why I’m so passionate about educating and encouraging those with autoimmune disorders/chronic illnesses has allowed me to reach so many people. As a medical professional and a patient, I feel obligated to share my experiences with my tribe on social media to encourage them to keep going and advocate for themselves. And to think I’m just getting started, you’d never know! I never imagined my little self-care project could turn into such a huge educational tool for so many. I have flyers, cards, and QR codes in multiple physician offices. I’ve received the stamp of approval from my own Primary Care Physician, as well as, my Neurologist to keep on helping those that may not be able to help themselves. Imagine wishing you had a physical tool (especially for my older women) to keep your medical history, physician names, medications, vital signs, symptom tracker, journaling and more all in one place then receive a “Queen with MS” or “Chronically Fabuleux” Wellness Diary from The Fabuleux Nurse?! Oh how I love to see a bright smile and a huge thank you! A Chronically Fabuleux woman is one who is determined that life circumstances will not keep her down, and that when she rises, she will hold out her hand to the next woman to lift them up with her.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m Chelsea Jené, creator of my brand, The Fabuleux Nurse and business A Queen with MS. I grew up in Natchitoches, Louisiana. I’ve been a Nurse for almost 6 years and a full time Travel Nurse for 4 years. I’m a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. In 2020, I temporarily relocated to Houston to work in Clinical Research and have now made my move here permanent. I now will be working as a Clinical Nurse Coordinator at a Specialty Hospital full time in Houston. My journey to get to this point in my life has had many, many highs and most certainly lows. Since April of 2020, I have been rebuilding my life while dealing with anxiety, an autoimmune disease (Multiple Sclerosis) that meant that pain would be a constant companion, and revamping my nursing career to fit my current physical state. Has this transition been easy for me? Not at all! One phrase that always comes to mind is “You are Fabuleux!” “You are THEE Fabuleux Nurse!”, I’d remind myself. Every where I’ve worked, I’ve left a little glitter behind. I’ve been nicknamed “Glitter”, “Smiley”, “The Fab One”, etc. while on travel nurse assignments. For each of us, feeling fabuleux may have a different meaning. For some of us hair and make-up is the go to, while others may prefer completing a workout. My wish is that we can all take a minute a day and tap into what makes us feel Fabuleux. Journaling lead me to creating my own personal diary, which in turn, has allowed me to share my product with all women dealing with chronic illnesses, autoimmune disorders or mental health disorders. As a nurse I wanted to bring something a little different to the table that would be of help for the many appointments we have, as well as, the many changes we can experience on a daily basis. As my business grows, I aim to use my brand to educate, provide helpful tools for those chronically ill and be of service within the community to help in any way I can. The world will remember this Queen with MS! With prayer and consistency, that goal is attainable. I am excited to see where this journey leads me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If my bestie is in town, the first thing we are doing is hitting the shops. I’m not a big mall girl, but I do live for the thrift stores on westheimer and the hidden boutiques that everyone passes by. Seafood is definitely always on the menu for this Louisianan so Cafe Rian in Humble is our next stop. I guess I’d let her rest the first night. 2nd day: Nails are definitely getting done @ Nails Life Studio, Brunch at Grace’s to grab my favorite frozen mimosa, then possibly get out into the nightlife at Kamp or Parma. 3rd day: Spa Day @ Gangnam Spa for a nice relaxing retreat, followed by Dinner at Prey on Post Oak for the BEST oxtails and lamb chops. 4th day: Keeping it fun, we can definitely go through the Color Factory for great photo ops. Go sightseeing followed by a trip to POST Houston and catch dinner at Lost & Found. End the night with a rooftop cinema club movie night. I’m such a planner, I’d have the itinerary emailed to her before her arrival. I’ve had the most fun with no plans in Houston but that’s usually how it goes. It’s the girl groups for Houston that I’ve been added into for me. I’ve met so many amazing people, been able to attend networking events and check out spots I’ve never heard of.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Yes! My mother, Wanda Wynder, is the first to come to mind. She is literally the root to why I am so passionate about patient advocacy especially when it comes to Multiple Sclerosis patients. My mom was diagnosed December 1996. I’ve assisted in her care since childhood, I push her, stay on top of her medications and supplements, and motivate her. Oh how the tables have turned. She is now doing all of those things for me. She is truly my WHY. I’m in awe of her resilience on a daily basis. I want nothing but to be as strong as she is as I age. Now we share OUR story together as one and it is beautiful. I’ve dedicated my “Queen with MS” series to her and now dedicate this shoutout to her. Second, is my fiancé Trey. This man is truly heaven sent and is my biggest supporter or #1 fan as he says. If I have an event to attend, he’s packed and ready to go with no thought about it. He encourages me daily to keep pushing forward and don’t succumb to my symptoms on a bad day. As my business flourishes, I know he’ll always be right there by my side so of course I have to give him some recognition as I share my story. Lastly, what would I do without my closest friends (they know who they are). My tribe is beyond supportive. While we each have separate businesses with joint endeavors to come, they still find time to send love and encouragement my way so I must give credit where credit is due.
