Meet Reneé Wells | Music Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Reneé Wells and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Reneé, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
When I decided to pursue music professionally, I didn’t think it would be equivalent to beginning my own business and brand.. I just knew I was ready to share my music with the world. So I would say in that aspect, I was definitely unprepared.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
As an artist, I like to think my flows, vulnerability, and creative visions sets me apart from other artists. I got to where I am today through pure trial and error. I failed so many times..or rather took a lot of losses. I don’t have a team. I don’t have a manager, or a label behind me or anyone or anything… it’s all me. So when I jumped in head first, I really had no clue how many mistakes I was making until later on. By then, of course, it was too late. But if this field is your passion, you just gotta keep going knowing that you know better now.

In the field I’ve learned that the artist is never just the artist. The artist, is the brand, business, boss, face of it all, etc. If anything goes wrong it falls on me even if it’s not my fault… And that’s the responsibility that I, unfortunately, have to own.

I want the world to say whatever they want to say. I’m curious on how I’ll be viewed over all. I’m used to people having the wrong impression about me. You know the “judging a book by its cover” thing. So it is what it is. But I will I’m just girl, making her dreams come true and I thank My God for how far I’ve come.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well I’m from Chicago, so we’d probably do ziplining at this place called GoApe or if it’s a chill day just go to the lake. I’m really boring outside of music life. I workout, go shopping, watch TV, and sleep lols. I’m definitely a homebody so finding a fun spot to be at would be an adventure for both of us. But I don’t really like being in big crowds so we wouldn’t go clubbing or anything… I’m more into nature and the little things like picnics or bike riding, even laser tag or something. But definitely no clubbing.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to shoutout my mom and brothers, DJ Dae Dae, Chicat, ROUZ Productions, my best friend Cassandra, for believing in me and supporting my craft.
