We had the good fortune of connecting with Chioma Adure Nwogu – Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chioma, putting aside the decision to work for yourself, what other decisions were critical to your success?
The single most important decision I made that contributed to my success is that I will always wake up DOING WHAT I LOVE. Bringing my clients’ visions to life and creating lasting memories through my productions’ ignites such a passion in me. A passion that I never had working for anybody else. Actually, it’s my passion that is the key ingredient to my success. This doesn’t mean it’s perfect. There are many ups and downs that come with the territory. I hold a huge responsibility in making my clients happy, continuing to thrive in my business and maintaining integrity in my work. It is HARD but I still love what I do and that makes it all worth it.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I am a daughter of grace, elegance, and beauty. I am passionate with a keen eye for detail. I am calm in the face of chaos, allowing others to find their calm. I smile through difficult situations. I am a problem solver, go-getter. I hope for the best and always prepare for the worst. I am respectful and supportive. I demand the best from my team and constantly push them to be better. I AM ADURE. As a seasoned, world-renowned event planner, I have the uncanny ability to tell a story through the art of curated, and extravagant productions. From intimate affairs to opulent soirees and corporate events, I have spent over a decade amassing a wealth of industry knowledge and a vast network of incredible vendors. It’s been a rollercoaster ride for sure; each event and client brings their own individual needs and traits so it’s never been boring. I’ve learnt a lot about myself and people in this role, especially since you are often dealing with people during a very emotional time in their lives so it’s almost as if you are part counselor and part creative. Ultimately for me, DURE EVENTS comes down to production and our ability to transform spaces. When I create, I see it in my mind’s eye and that vision never really stops. It keeps growing and that’s probably why our events often feel immersive- because they are part of this bigger vision in my head. I’m always looking for ways to be more creative and to push the experience further. I would also say our customized organizational system plays a big role in making these ideas a reality. When you think of my brand, you think of LOVE because I do it all for LOVE. #LoveDure
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Because I spend so much time on the go, making sure all of the details are prepared for my events; I really love to indulge in some serious self-care and self-love. We would start with a day of pampering at the Santuary Spa located between iconic Houston neighborhoods River Oaks and Montrose, where we would get a nice massage, facial and pedicure. Then we would book a room for the day at the citys only AAA Five-Diamond destination, The Post Oak Hotel. Once we are checked-in to our rooms, we will head downstairs to enjoy their elegant outdoor patio for lunch at the Bloom & Bee. After lunch, we will enjoy some downtime and cocktails under a cabana by the pool and end the day with some live entertainment and world-class cuisine at Mastro’s Steakhouse. Houston has so many amazing spots but those 2 locations are my favorite.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I honestly could not be where I am today without my team! They inspire me so much and push me to be my best. This shoutout is dedicated to the DURE TEAM!!! I also have to add, My Lord and Savior because without his loving grace, I would not be here.
