We had the good fortune of connecting with Christal Crockett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christal, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I knew I would author a book since I was young. As a student, I enjoyed presenting my imaginative stories to the class. I find myself writing fiction short stories. As I matured, I started creating poems that I had never shared. My love for books and writing grew stronger as I matured. In 2019, I made a journal for women to journal their prayers and color beautiful illustrations. After three years of people asking how I did, I finally decided to coach people and offer a full-service Publishing boutique for Christian creators and authors.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have a publishing boutique that helps aspiring and current authors go from stuck to published. I offer book coaching, web design, social media strategy, editing, eBook formation, and Done-For-You publishing. Additionally, we will offer physical and digital journal and planner creation. This business is different because it is precisely for Christian authors and creators.
I am excited about this Publishing Boutique because although I never imagined I would do something of this magnitude, I recognized I have a unique opportunity to tell my story and help others with impactful stories tell theirs.
Most people don’t know I have a few published works. Since 2014, I have been creating literary works and publishing them online. I published my first eBook in 2019 and my best-selling prayer journal in June 2020. Although I have experience as a writer, I still faced imposter syndrome when conceptualizing this business. It was such a huge undertaking that I was overwhelmed with the magnitude of what I was launching. However, with great mentors, business coaches, and support from friends and family, I have become resolved to know I am an expert. I have strategy, innovation, and experience that make me one of the best to do this line of work.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Houston has the best food and fun spots to explore to satisfy anyone’s interest. I love the finer things in life and expect nothing less than a luxury experience, even on a budget. Some of my favorite eateries in Houston are Mia’s Table, FiftyFifteen in SaksFifth, Breakfast Klub, Taste of Texas, Steak 48, Juliet, Graces, and Cyclone Anayas. Day 6 Coffee Co. and Hebrews Coffee Woodlands are my favorite coffee shops. If I were to do activities with or without kids, I would visit Andretti’s in Katy, Puttshack, Fete 832, Immersive Gamebox, Escape Hunt Houston, Color Factory, and the Museum District.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First and foremost, I have to dedicate this interview to God because this business belongs to Him, and I am simply the representative on earth to help it fulfill its purpose. My relationship with Christ is why I have the faith to do something bigger than me. I also want to recognize my church, The Rock – Houston. My church family has been pivotal in helping me speak courage, boldness, and faith in building a business.
