We had the good fortune of connecting with Christian Navarrete and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Christian, the decisions we make often shape our story in profound ways. What was one of the most difficult decisions you’ve had to make?
If I had to decide on what one decision I have made in my life so far that was the most difficult I would have to say it was when I finally decided to step away from 17+ years in commercial radio and enter into the life of small/large format printing.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Eighty Proof Print And Graphics is a large/small format printing company. Co-owned by myself and my business partner Scott Collins, the most important thing to our company is maintaining a great and trusting relationship with our clients. Wether you are a hobbyist, small business owner, corporate real estate company, or someone that needs a single print, every order is important to us because it is important to you.

The one thing we pride ourselves with is our work ethic. “It’s my business so of course I’m going to be in the trenches getting dirty”

Opening Eighty Proof Print And Graphics was probably one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. It wasn’t an easy one though because it required me leaving a stable position I had at another print shop. Then, just when the excitement of starting the business kicked in so did the troubles of Covid-19. We were lucky that we hadn’t purchased a building and opened up our physical shop at the beginning of the pandemic because if we did we would’ve been in a bad situation. The world had stopped or slowed down and so did the printing. Since then we’ve opened back up for business and things couldn’t be better. Clients, new and old, have returned and we are definitely looking forward to what the future holds for Eighty Proof Print And Graphics.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When I talk to “out of town” friends about Houston the two main things they seem to always bring up is the food and nightlife. Of course a tour of all the bbq spots is a must when it comes down to food. Then, as far as the nightlife is concerned, anywhere my crew The Kracker Nuttz is djing at never fails.

There are the usual “tourists” spots we can always go visit. Spots like NASA, The Galleria, Galveston, and the Museum of Fine Arts. Other places we definitely need to check out are the local breweries and patio bars all around town. Just don’t bring any winter clothes because the Houston heat and humidity “ain’t no joke”.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to shoutout my wife Jaimee. She has seen me at my lowest and has celebrated with me when I’ve been at my highest. Jaimee has always been the voice of reason and encouragement. When it came down to making the final decision to retire from radio, my wife was right there with me. Then when the opportunity came to open up my own shop, Jaimee reassured me that this was the path that needed to be taken.
