We had the good fortune of connecting with Jenna Duncan and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jenna, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Art has always been important to me. Since I was a little girl I have valued the ability to connect creatively with myself and nature through art. I love that photography allows me to not only express myself creatively but to also bless others by capturing glimpses of their lives in beautiful images that they will be able to enjoy forever.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
“I am the owner/CEO of Jenna Duncan Photography where I specialize in natural light, family photography.” I love capturing simple, organic images that spotlight the beauty and joy in the life of each of my clients while using soft tones and dreamy natural light. Our lives can often feel so fast-paced; my job is to slow it down and turn sweet, natural moments between loved ones into art through the images I provide to my clients. I love that I get to share my passion and art with so many sweet families across Houston.
I’m grateful for the continued growth we’ve seen at Jenna Duncan Photography over the last several years, for each and every amazing client I get to meet and work with and also for the editorial work I’ve gotten to do with Houston Family Magazine & Houston Baby Magazine over the past year. This time last year was the first time my image was used as the cover of their magazine!
A lot of hard work, along with some challenges, has gone in to building my business but the lasting memories I get to produce for my clients and the relationships we have is so rewarding! I’m grateful I stepped out in faith and pursued my passion so many years ago, for the challenges that have produced growth and for the support and encouragement I have received from my husband, friends, family and clients along the way.
If we haven’t met yet, I sure would love to meet and capture beautiful images for you! Please reach out to me at Jenna Duncan Photography anytime!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I definitely recommend checking out the Houston Museum District. My family loves walking through the Museum of Fine Arts and the Cockrell Butterfly Center there. The Houston Zoo followed by a ride on the train and a picnic under a large oak tree in Hermann Park is also a great way to spend a day! Miller Outdoor Theatre is another wonderful spot for a picnic while enjoying a live show outdoors. On my side of town in Memorial, I would definitely recommend walking or biking the trails and enjoying the beautiful nature out at Terry Hershey Park. The Edith Moore Nature Sanctuary is another great place to explore the woods and watch for wildlife. Some of our my familys absolute favorite places to dine in Houston are Coltivare (try the cauliflower!!), Local Foods, Flower Child (the Mother Earth Bowl is amazing!) and Ruggles Black. For dessert, we often visit Awesome Bites for amazing allergy-friendly N’Ice Cream, Cookies and Muffins or Over The Moon for vegan Ice Cream.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
It’s so hard to name just one person that has supported, inspired or encouraged me in some way along the path of creating Jenna Duncan Photography! Ever since I was little, both my Mom and my Dad encouraged and nurtured my love for art and nature. My photography professor in college pushed and challenged me in all the ways I needed which really helped me stretch and expand my skills.
When I decided to make photography my business seven years ago, my husband was my biggest cheerleader and supporter and he still is to this day! He has truly believed in me from day one and has encouraged and celebrated my dreams right along with me. I am so thankful for him. My sweet sister-in-law also encouraged me and let me get plenty of practice in on her little family in the beginning of my career. My Dad also still proudly hangs my editorial work in his office which I think is so sweet. And last, but certainly not least,my precious and incredible three year old son inspires me to see and capture the beauty in life every single day. He’s also endured a lot of modeling sessions for me like a true champ and is becoming quite the little photographer himself.
I’m so fortunate to have these people and influences in my life that’s that have helped inspire me to create and grow Jenna Duncan Photography into what it is today. I’m forever grateful.
