We had the good fortune of connecting with Christina Jusu and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christina, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I have been braiding since I was a little child, my grandma always said when she used to braid other people’s hair, I would always sit next to her with my Barbie doll and braid its hair as I watched her. I have always had a passion for braiding. I always loved watching my clients’ reactions when I finished their hair. I knew that I always wanted to make anyone who sits in my chair feel beautiful and confident once they leave my chair. That was the idea and vision behind me starting my business.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I have been in the braiding industry for as long as I can remember. I am proud of the growth I have accomplished in the past few years regarding my business. Being able to build a brand that is backed by professionalism and satisfied clients isn’t easy. It requires dedication to your craft and patience. I believe what sets me apart is my 1 on 1 approach and client satisfaction. Having that personal relationship with your clients. I have a majority of women clients, and in the times we are in, having someone you can talk to anytime when you may have no one to talk to is a great feeling and as women we need that. Working in this field has made me more open; it has taught me patience and most of all, consistency. I want my clients to always return, so making sure that I am always consistent with my quality of work and always being professional and a friend when in need.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
So first on the itinerary would be breakfast or brunch. Houston has some amazing brunch spots. I would take her to Bloom and bees in Post Oak for brunch. We definitely have to get pampered so going to get our nails done and definitely a massage at Hand and Stone, we would have to get some Thai food for dinner. I would take her downtown to explore since it has so much to do. We would watch a movie at the Rooftop cinemas and take pictures at the waterfall downtown. We both love afro beats so at night we are wearing our heels and heading to Domain for afro beats night, it is always a vibe. We would also go sip and paint or take a pottery class.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am dedicating this shoutout to God, my Family and close friends. They have always supported my dreams and aspirations. When I have felt like quitting they were always there to push me to go harder. I would not be this far in my career without them.
