We had the good fortune of connecting with Christopher Nguyen and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Christopher, any advice for those thinking about whether to keep going or to give up?
I have never made the choice to give up easily, even as a child once I start something I see it through. I always go back and forth in my head weighing the pros and cons of the situation whenever I get the urge to give up. Ultimately however it comes down to whether or not if I think I’ll be able to live with the potential regret that comes with giving up on something. In my opinion temporary discomfort is preferable to a lifetime of regret.

Coming from a tech/corporate background I’d say my business mindset when it comes to modeling sets me apart. I don’t do it just because its fun or I like to look at myself, I’m here to do my job. I’m most proud about my self reliance so far in the way I built up my network and portfolio as a new independent model. While I wouldn’t describe it a hard necessarily, it requires you to put in the leg work. You have to build your network to be in certain circles, stay on top of your appearance at all times, and constantly compete in already competitive industry that everyone wants to be in. It really comes down to how bad you want it, yes some people are blessed and randomly get “discovered” organically, but otherwise it comes down to your hustle. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that you have to be your own advocate, you can’t wait around for someone else to do it for you. Go out and put yourself out there and just do it. I want the world to know that I’ve done my rounds in Houston and I’m ready for expansion, so if anyone needs a model I’m ready!
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
That’s tough because I’m more of a homebody honestly, I’m either at home or in the gym mostly. However I am a big foodie so I’m your guy when it comes to that. I’d personally recommend Gen Korean BBQ, Musaafer, Jinya Ramen, Brenner’s, MAX’s, and the list goes on. Entertainment wise I’m a fan of Cidercade/FAO for games with drinks and House of Blues for when my favorite artists come in town.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother definitely deserves credit when it comes to my story. She has always had my best interest in mind and has made sacrifices for me to have what I do today. She is my biggest supporter and I would not be who I am today without her.
