We had the good fortune of connecting with christopher whitt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi christopher, as a parent, what have you done for you children that you feel has had the most significant impact?
The most important thing I have done as a parent (professionally speaking), is include my kids in all aspects of Whitt Collision Repair. From balancing the budget to performing repairs and even having them ride along and assist with emergency roadside calls. All of that have had a tremendous impact on their view of entrepreneurship and the dedication it takes to be a successful business owner as well has help them mature a little with regard to responsibilities and getting things done.
What should our readers know about your business?
Since i was a kid, I have always wanted to have some of the fastest and cleanest cars to showcase after riding in my uncle Sylvester’s 1968 Chevy Impala and my dreams began to evolve when I was 17. My last year of high school my dad passed his 1978 Cadillac Coupe Deville down to me and taught the ins and outs as well as the does and don’ts when performing engine repairs. I picked up bodywork and different techniques from my uncle Gregory and everything sort of took off from there. As I brought car after care over the years, usually driving them around in raw form people began to hire me to perform minor body repairs. Before I knew it, I was balancing a regular 9 to 5, my personal life and what was becoming a growing business. For years I was the guy that fixed cars on the side while utilizing my engineering degree but my dreams where much bigger. I needed a shop and a tow truck, and it wasn’t until 2021 part of that dream came true and I got my first tow truck. It took lots of sacrifice and distancing myself from a lot of people to the point of feeling empty at times and questioning whether it is all worth it. Was it? Absolutely.
Running a business isn’t easy and has taught me some lessons that I continue to apply to my life personally and professionally in present day. Building professional relationships could very well dictate the survival of your business in its first few years or overall survival period, sometimes it’s as simple as outsourcing certain aspects of what you need done through another company and often times, they will do the same as long as you do good business. Patience will get you farther then you ever thought in life because it is a form of discipline and sometimes you just have to wait until it is your time to shine while still doing things to stay productive in a positive way. Staying dedicated and motivated isn’t easy when you’re in the wrong atmosphere, or are in the wrong company of friends, family or just anyone that doesn’t have a positive outlook on life. So, if that’s your situation, then it’s time for you to change your environment and move around. Most importantly faith in God and trust in his process has made it possible for me to continue.
I recently attended Texas Whip Fest and let’s just say that Whitt Collision Repair will raise the bar on show car quality.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am a bit of a foodie, and still quite new to Texas but dinner at DJs Steakhouse in Dallas is an upscale, by reservation only restaurant with great food and top-notch staff. Another great place to dine in, listen to live music by sax and try a variety of drinks is Daq’s Daiquiris & More in Plano, Texas. This is also by reservation and is one of the best places to go if you’re visiting the area.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to dedicate my shout out to my father frank whitt as well as my uncle greg and sylvester “woody” Whitt who both recently passed away. Uncle Greg, thank you for the laughs and knowlege you instilled in me because without it, there would be no Whitt Collision Repair. Uncle “Woody” you gave me the ride of a lifetime in that ’68 Impala that I now own, and Im gonna finish it the way you would have liked. Dad, thank for getting me on track and giving me that Caddy…it was the start I needed.
