We had the good fortune of connecting with Cierra Whalon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Cierra, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
When deciding to go into business for myself I was concerned with the hardships and risk I’d have to take to succeed. But as time goes on you realize, taking risk are necessary for the journey. Risk-taking has played a major part of my career path, every day in business there are is more to learn and a lot of time that comes with taking risk. It is important for me to take chances because of the lessons that could come along (whether good or bad) and do come along with entrepreneurship and life itself. A lot of times people look at taking risk as a negative thing but for some people it could be just the opposite. Taking risk could also be a means of motivation for some people and that is exactly how I see it.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Aside from being a creative, I also take pride in my professional/corporate career path, I enjoy helping people in all aspects. While I love making them feel 100% their best on the outside to match their inside, it is important for me to be of assistance and be the best I can be while making, small but valuable changes in peoples lives.

Professionally, I have worked since a young age but keeping the drive and motivation to reach more lives has gotten me this far. Life comes with challenges but it’s always about how we perceive them and turn them around for the better.

Being in business is great but continuing to learn, maintain and grow your business is even better and that’s what I want people to see when they look at my brand. Where it has come from and where it is going and I do that by using skills I learned in my professional life as well as everyday life.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Being in Houston, there are so many unique spots to visit. For a week with friends, some place I would definitely take them would be Taste Bar and Kitchen for a great brunch. Prey Houston, which I just discovered has a great vibe, food and drinks to enjoy. My friends enjoy trying new restaurants and lounges so I of course would take them to some of hottest spots in the city like Kamp Houston, Cle’ (which is great for summertime fun) and it wouldn’t be right to not visit The Breakfast Klub since trying different restaurants are one of our favorite hobbies. For a nice scenery, out door activities and great photo op opportunity Bayou Park is always nice, and among the top spots are Washington Ave and Midtown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout goes to someone who is already established in business and helps small businesses and women in business grow and learn. I joined Learn With Lilly mentorship in January of 2021, during the pandemic and while I still have so much to learn I have taken a lot from this mentorship program. Lilly takes her time and creates her business plans, and assist with growing in business. Not just business, there are other women in this mentorship who also help you learn and grow . I’m still so new in business and always open to learn under someone who knows what they are doing and really breaks things down for you.
More importantly having a strong faith is my main support, without faith and something to believe in (thanking God for everything) other than myself helps to stay in it and never give up.
