We had the good fortune of connecting with C’Nee Miller and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi C’Nee, how do you think about risk?
I believe risks are a necessary part of life, since birth we’ve taken risks. As we get older and become more aware of the consequences of the risks we take, we often shy away from challenges that are too unknown. I took a risk by moving across the world in hopes of the adventure of a lifetime. I didn’t have a plan other than to have an experience I couldn’t have in America. I didn’t have much to leave behind and my family was mostly supportive of my journey. I accepted a position in Kuwait: a place I had never visited, couldn’t speak the native language and knew no one. Within 48 hours of arrival I met my tribe, a group of amazing women from multiple cultures and we meshed instantly and naturally. We’ve created and shared many wonderful experiences: we’ve traveled together, worked together and lived together. I couldn’t have asked for a better outcome to such a situation. If I hadn’t taken the risk to uproot my life and venture into the unknown I wouldn’t have met the woman I have become today.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I’m an educator by trade and a creative in my real life. I have spent 8 years in the classroom focused on English Language Learners and how to effectively bridge the learning gap for this special population. I moved to Kuwait in 2018 for a new adventure and in that time have developed some new ways to increase learning and build relationships with students. English Language Learners are a difficult population to serve because there are so many factors (outside of the regular challenges of teaching) that make up the individual student learning experience. I’ve learned not to let my career be my personality trait and to let my creative and fun personality shine in everything I do. Most importantly, I’ve learned patience and grace. I’m most excited about my new series on Instagram where I’m creating a space for educators and students to grow. Through social media I’m giving tips to teachers on how to reach their E.L.L. population more successfully and giving tips to students on how to effectively use what they learn in the classroom.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
When my best friend comes to town it’s a must we visit the Kuwait towers. We’ll have brunch and afterwards go upstairs to visit the observation deck for a panoramic view of the city. We’ll definitely hit the Avenues Mall where shopping and activities are endless, maybe we’ll catch a movie or join an escape room while there. We’ll visit the Port restaurant complex for lunch and coffee at Kamikaze Cafe, where I’ll introduce her to some of my amazing friends here in Kuwait. Then we’ll pop over to Fahaheel and do some shopping at the souq (the outside market) and hopefully we can catch the water show while we’re there. While my BFF is in town we can also, go on a boat tour, jet ski, spend a day at Spa Time (one of my favorite spas in Kuwait), go to the large souk in Kuwait City, take a mosque tour, ATV in the desert, watch a camel race, and most importantly have a night in just laughing and hanging out like we did in high school.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to Shoutout my amazing sister, Ayana Green, creator of Lenora’s Corner Cakery. She’s truly a cake boss!
