We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Barron and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Well I grew up baking with my grandmother who had her own bakery. I really got into my business ksweets about 2 years ago. Ksweets is named about my daughter who has a brain disability called polymicrogyria. She is my world and this is a small thing I can do for her. My thought behind this was giving families who can’t afford a giant cake from a bakery, giving them a great price in their budget to get what they wanted. It has been a blessing to get business. Hoping for more.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
My business is ksweets basked in the houston area. I think what sets me apart from others are my prices and my creative. I keep my prices within whatever my customer budget is while giving them what they want. I got to where I am today by youtube, constantly practicing techniques. It was for sure not easy. I overcame challenges by practicing before I put them on the cake and mastering it. I think the most important lesson is you can’t please everyone. You have to overcome that and do better. I want to let them know my business is going towards something meaningful . Some profit I donate to my daughter disabled and some is going to get my dental surgery paid. This is my passion.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would for sure take them to a Hold on Hollywood concert my favorite band !!! Then the galleria where have the best ice skating and stores. Of course to a zero degrees where they have the best shakes.. there are so many places to go and see..

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My daughter for sure!! She has inspired me to do so much. my parents always encouraged me to do what I wanted and they want to open me a bakery one day. My grandparents, my grandfather before he passed in January was always so proud of me and I carry him everyday.. my grandmother is still here supporting my dreams.. can’t forget my boyfriend for always cleaning my dishes..haha.. but my family is my number one support!!
