We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Courtney, is your business focused on helping the community? If so, how?
King Sovereign Farms is focused directly on the community in Brazoria County Texas and surrounding counties. Not only are we dedicated to providing fresh, pesticide-free fruits and vegetables to seniors in our community but also educating our community about the importance of proper nutrition. The farm is also a place for the community to experience God’s love and Kingdom biblical principles!

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m Courtney King, an executive director of King Sovereign Farms. We’re a community fruit and vegetable farm located in Brazoria county, dedicated to feeding and educating our community according to Kingdom principles found in God’s word. Our farm is currently focused on three main initiatives. Our first initiative is our Senior Farm Bag program that provides fresh, pesticide-free vegetables to individuals ages 55 and over through our bi-monthly and soon to be bi-weekly farm bags. Last fall, we were able to provide farm bags to 40 seniors in our community. For the upcoming Spring harvest, we have over 50 seniors that have already signed up. The second initiative that we are actively working on is the distribution of moringa powder and moringa trees. Moringa powder is an awesome superfood with a ton of vitamins and nutrients and can be put in smoothies, teas and so much more! Our last initiative is solely focused on education. We’re preparing the farm infrastructure to be able to host student field trips, community events like “coffee and community on the farm” and courses to teach our community about the importance of our nutrition and how they too can grow their own fruits and vegetables. Our non-profit was formed as a result of a vision from the Lord to feed His people! While we (my family and I), didn’t have any farming or nonprofit experience when we started in 2019, we literally have been guided by the Holy Spirit and lots of YouTube videos in order to grow the farm and begin producing vegetables. So far, some of our greatest accomplishments have been the stories we have received from our visitors about how blessed they have been by our vegetables and even some stories of visitors being healed by the Lord while at the farm. Even with all of the hard work, these stories and experience and the fact that God has called us to do this, keeps us growing!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If a best friend was visiting, we’d of course bring them to the farm. But we’d also visit some of Houston’s top restaurants like Local Foods and other farm-to-table restaurants. We’d also stop by some of our favorite coffee shops like Luce Avenue Coffee Roasters and Catalina Cafe.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Our main shoutout goes to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whose Kingdom has mandated us to feed and educate our community and who has provided the provision needed to carry out this vision.
