We had the good fortune of connecting with Courtney Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Courtney, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I initially began with thought of publishing my books on my own terms as opposed to utilizing someone’s resources and being subjected to their conditions.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I had to learn many lessons regarding how to write and who to submit different documents to for publishing. Additionally, learning how to correct and disregard any bad habits or information that I have acquired was paramount. It was not always easy to to waste time and money with bad results of attempted projects, but learning is an experience I will always treasure although it would be nice to have some of that cash returned.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We would more than likely attend a few poetic venues and events. Houston has some of the hottest spoken-word artists in the country.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to thank my mother Sheron Holt for raising and encouraging me. I would also like to thank Jennifer Compton Dial aka Quiettalker for showing me inspiration. I also like to acknowledge my wife Monica Matthews-Smith for making it all possible. I would not have had the backbone to start my own business without her encouragement. I would especially like to thank my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ and The Lord God Almighty for making EVERYTHING possible. There is no existence without them.
