We had the good fortune of connecting with Dami Bisiriyu and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Dami, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I have always wanted to be an entrepreneur since I was a little girl, I started with making bracelets and duck tape pens. But as I got older I wanted to make a name for myself. I wanted to start a business that was different from what we usually see on social media these days. I prayed to God to give me a unique idea and I just happened to stumble across a candle-making page on tik tok and it just clicked; this is what I want to do. For months I watched youtube videos on how to perfect a candle. I took a leap of faith and trust in God that this is something I should do. It wasn’t easy at first I did have my doubts on is this something anyone would be interested in. I prayed and continued doing research. When I was working behind the scenes I just really wanted to provide strongly scented, long-lasting, and good-smelling candles; so I had to do a lot of sample candles and focus on what worked and what didn’t. And after months of doing that November 1st I officially launch All Things Wick’d and the support was crazy, sold out in 2 weeks of the website opening and I give the glory to God.

What should our readers know about your business?
All Things Wick’d is a black owned candle business located in Texas. We are dedicated to produce environment friendly candles that don’t release toxic components. All our candles are hand made and poured using 100% soy wax. Soy wax is a vegetable wax made from the oils of soybeans. It being fully naturally allows our candles to have a strong hot throw and still be environment friendly. What sets us apart from other candle companies is we really strive to produce candles that are good for the environment and to calm down stress. There has been many times I have lit a candle to reduce stress and it has honestly worked. What I am most proud of is selling out of candles on all of my product launches. People really support me and see that I am producing good quality candles and they are excited to buy them every single time. I am excited for my next two launches; fall and winter collections. These are my two favorite seasons and I have amazing ideas in store to share with everyone. Where Im at business wise is I have built clientele with people in Texas and even some out of state. I have been ask to be in multiple pop up shops that have gotten my business name out there. It was not easy it took a lot of work and there was times I thought this was not meant for me. To overcome you really have to keep pushing and pray to God to give you strength. An important lesson I learned durning this journey is to be true to your business and talk about it every chance you get. Once people see you really enjoy what your doing and see that drive to become successful they will fully support and back you up. You have to be confident and start ten toes behind your business. I want people to know my brand has bigger and better things in store in the upcoming year; new products and expansions. Thank you everyone for the love and support, every sale I get really makes my day seriously and I can’t wait to give you guys products you really enjoy.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am born and raised in Houston and if my best friend was coming to visit for the weekend the first stop would be at Lost and Found. The atmosphere is so chill and inviting. They have great music playing while you relax and eat. Their seafood pasta and cocktails are so good. Next I would go to painting with a twist, where you can drink wine while the instrutor teaches you how to paint. Places I like to drink and eat would be Prospect Park, Dona Leti taco place, and Atomic bottle.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
First and foremost I wanted to shoutout God; without him, I wouldn’t have been allowed to have a business nor been given this interview. Next to my parents, they had so much support for me especially my dad. Still, to this day he is trying to help me expand in ways I didn’t know. And my lovely cousin Precious Omotoso, at this rate she is my manager. Has been there for me since the idea popped in my head and was there for the majority of my pop-up shops to just help and encourage me.
