We had the good fortune of connecting with Damonica Blount and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Damonica, maybe we can start at the very start – the idea – how did you come up with the idea for your business?
Fitness has always been a part of my life. Growing up, I played sports from recreational leagues all the way through high school. Although I didn’t participate in sports during undergrad, my passion for fitness never wavered. I earned a B.S. in Exercise Science with plans to pursue a Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT), but life took a different turn. Unsure of my exact path, one thing was clear—I wanted to inspire and motivate others to lead healthier lifestyles.

In 2022, I went back to school and earned my Master of Business Administration, and everything started to align. With faith and determination, I decided to channel my passion into becoming a health and fitness coach. That’s how The Pit Fitness, LLC was born! I now offer both in-person and virtual services, including personalized training and meal guides, to help others achieve their fitness goals and transform their lives.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Getting to where I am today professionally has been a journey of passion, faith, and persistence. I’m just getting started in the health and fitness industry, but every step has been intentional. The journey hasn’t been without challenges. Doubt, fear, and the pressure of figuring out the “right” or “best” path were constant companions. But I learned to trust the process, stay focused on my goals, and lean on the support of my faith, family, and mentors. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is that your journey doesn’t have to be linear—detours can lead you to incredible destinations.

My long-term goal is to open a garage-style gym in Dallas, TX, where I can create a space that’s not just about physical fitness but about building a community of people striving to be their best selves. Through The Pit Fitness, LLC, I want the world to know that fitness is for everyone, and with the right mindset and support, you can achieve more than you ever imagined. This is just the beginning, and I’m excited for what’s to come!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the incredible support and guidance of so many people. First and foremost, I want to thank God for providing me with the strength, clarity, and vision to pursue my passions. My family and close friends have been my biggest cheerleaders, constantly encouraging me and believing in my dreams, even when I doubted myself.

I also owe so much to my professors and mentors from undergrad and grad school who not only shared their knowledge but also inspired me to think outside the box and push beyond my limits. Additionally, books like Atomic Habits by James Clear and Bamboozled By Jesus: How God Tricked Me into the Life of My Dreams by Yvonne orji have played a huge role in shaping my mindset and fueling my drive for personal growth and entrepreneurship.

Finally, I want to shout out to my amazing clients and supporters of The Pit Fitness, LLC. Their trust and dedication motivate me to keep showing up and giving my best every single day.
