We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Cardozo and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
How can anyone achieve anything if they don’t risk anything? I’ve always tried living by a quote by Thomas Jefferson, stating that ‘if you want something you have never had, you must be willing to do something you have never done’ – and doing something new or for the first time always has a hint of risk associated with it; but I love it. I know that with risk there is reward, and that’s why I’ve done what I’ve done thus far in my life. As BCF meets is with the Bright Choice Foundation, we knew that by hosting a car meet underneath that name would hold a lot of value – it could go great, and the name would be of good connotation, or it could go horribly wrong – ruining the Bright Choice name and all of us hosting BCF Meets. Every meet is a risk, though. We have to negate certain risks more than others, because, like I said, with no risk, it’d be quite boring, and by staying in our comfort zone, we wouldn’t grow! We have to take some risks to expand and to help more.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
BCF Meets was literally made for one reason – to be different. There are so many car events, car meets, get-togethers, etc. We wanted to be different, but also beneficial. We could, obviously, be different in a negative sense, but that wouldn’t make much sense. I thought, well, I have a YouTube channel, so I could help ‘advertise’ our meets, and help us out like that. But, I need to meet someone else with the same vision that I had. Luckily enough, a few months after explaining my idea to Abdullah, he introduced me to Ahmed. When Ahmed and I met for the first time, Abdullah told him that I have been wanting to start hosting car meets – for a very long time. It’s always been a dream of mine since I was extremely young – going to car events was my paradise as an automotive enthusiast, so it was God’s answer when I met Ahmed. He told me he’s been wanting to start hosting car meets, too; and that Abdullah had built a bridge for us to cross, through the Bright Choice foundation. The Bright Choice foundation is a 501(c) non-profit based in Houston, which focuses on educational and mentorship programs for youth, promoting academic success, athletic development, and community service. It aims to help young people reach their potential and positively impact society. We thought, why not combine the two? So, Abdullah, a member of the Bright Choice Foundation, spoke to the higher-ups, and got the idea approved. BCF Meets could now begin – “Revving for a Cause” was our tagline, as we aimed to host charity-driven car events. We’ve so far sent money to the victims of the earthquakes in Turkey in Syria and built a water well in Uganda, and have no intention of stopping here. By uniting the car community and helping others, we have created a unique, must be there to feel, atmosphere at our events. The coolest cars and the greatest causes, basically. It’s truly, and, I must say, proudly, a remarkable thing. We could not be happier with the direction in which we’re headed.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d definitely start off on Washington Avenue – assuming it’s a Friday evening. Cruise around, enjoy the night life – see some cool cars, we could go ahead and take a drive through downtown and on Memorial Drive – just a nice, fun road, where we can see some of Houston’s nicest areas and parks. Hopefully there’d be an Astros game, so we can go watch them win. Saturday morning, we could go over to Eleanor Tinsley park for a quick run or workout. I’ve actually done this a handful of times with some friends of mine, and the park, with the slight dew and buildings in the distance, is absolutely beautiful. We could then, assuming there is an event that Saturday, head on over to POST, and check out Coffee and Cars. Always a great time – I’d show them around POST, and look at some really awesome cars. Come back to Sugar Land after that, and do some car-spotting – Sugar Land has some seriously nice rides. Do a bit of that, then in the evening, hoping we’d have one that day, go to a BCF Meet! Spend the night there, look at the coolest cars in the city of Houston, make friends, and have a great time. On Sunday, I’d take them to a certain car meet I really enjoy – I can’t give a location or time, but I go to that meet almost religiously. The best of the best – after BCF, of course. Go around the Galleria area, maybe do some shopping at the Galleria itself, and maybe after that we could head over to NASA, take a look at the museum, and head to Sugar Land to end the day at Sugar Land Town Center. Very lively place with music, movies, dancing, food and overall a great time. I’d say this is pretty quickly put together – but it’s about a rough estimate of what I could think of!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d absolutely love to thank my friends who help host BCF Meets: Abdullah Baday, Ahmed Soylemez, and Recep Ugŭr. None of BCF would be possible without them – because of Abdullah, he introduced me to Ahmed, where we both had our own ideas about hosting car meets. There, for the first time we all met each other, we formed the idea to host a charity-driven car meet, in efforts to help out the world; as much as some teenagers could, at least! Aside from BCF Meets, in my Real Estate world, I’d love to thank my mentor – Donald Leonard – an exceptional human being with more knowledge and wisdom than I can describe, as well as Jasim Khan and Manshir Gill – two of my friends, both in the real estate industry, who have pushed me to be who I am today. I’d not be half the man I am if it weren’t for them. For my YouTube channel, MotoRevs, I’d like to shoutout my parents, who have always tried their best to help me become the best version I can – on and off the camera.
