We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Gottschalk and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Daniel, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I’ve always wanted to build something that I was proud of and that would make a positive impact for others. In building Family Tree with my business partner, I find that the challenges of building a sustainable business is beyond our abilities, but sharing our endeavor with our team has been an unexpected joy for us both. I’d love to proudly say that we left our community and the home care industry in a far better place than we found it. I’m confident we’re positioned well to do exactly that, though the road will not be easy. But we didn’t go into business for ourselves because we thought it’d be easy….

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I began my career as a corporate attorney at Baker Botts, LLP, mostly focused on mergers and acquisitions. I always longed to be in business for myself, and when I teamed up with Alex Bonetti, my business partner, i found that I could leverage my skills with Alex’s existing operation at Family Tree, and together we could build a better way for people to age in their home. Our business is not unique on the surface — we have many competitors providing similar services. However, we have chosen to elevate our basic service, caregiving, by building a company that focusing on serving as a trusted partner to our clients to help them navigate their particular situation. We walk this walk with them and provide expert help to get through whatever is facing them. Besides walking that walk, a service we call Life Care Management, we can provide them with care in their home up to 24/7 with nurses and caregivers to make their care plan successful. Very few companies take an approach where they aim to be a one stop shop for aging, illness and disability, but at Family Tree, we have found that our clients expect nothing less.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
In Houston, everything revolves around food! We’d have to start our day with breakfast tacos, with my favorite being Chilosas. Moving to lunch and dinner, Houston has some of the best new restaurants around, so we’d certainly go from meal to meal. My happy place is anywhere outdoors, so if we have some great weather, you can find me and my friends on a patio, going on a hike, or taking it up a notch — skydiving at Skydive Spaceland.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My business partner Alex Bonetti deserves every accolade (and every criticism!) that I do, as we rise and fall together. Countless people in my life have supported me, most notably our team who dedicate their careers to serving our clients — people battling aging, illness and disability. If not for our team, our business would not thrive. They have battled with us through thick and thin, and we owe them everything.
