We had the good fortune of connecting with Daniel Yisa and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Daniel, do you have a favorite quote or affirmation?
“My favorite affirmation is: ‘When I open my eyes _________.’ I follow up this line with a goal I have in mind and it gives me comfort that one day I will open my eyes and the goals i am pursuing will be mine. This affirmation reminds me of the importance of patience and diligence. Each time I say these words and open my eyes I am reinforcing my belief in the inevitable fruition of my goals. It’s not just a wish or a dream; it’s a confidence that the things which I desire are already mine.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I would describe my art as surreal, thought provoking and soul touching. I believe the thing that sets me apart from others is authenticity and the fact I like exploring aspect of the human experience that sometimes get overlooked. I am most excited about the future because i know it will surprise me I just don’t know how. I got to where I am today by taking risks and figuring it out along the way. At times it can be tempting to want to have everything perfect before we begin a new venture, but I learned that we don’t have to have things figured out to begin. I would say getting to where I am today wasn’t hard but it wasn’t easy either. it took lots of practice and trial and error but the good thing about doing something you love is that you don’t notice the countless hours spent working because it doesn’t feel like work it more so feels like play. Concerning my brand and story I want the world to know it is better to be yourself than to be a copy of everyone else and that there is beauty in individuality and life in expression.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For food I would take them to Lucille’s and The Breakfast Club for breakfast/brunch. KFFO steakhouse, cool runnings Jamaican grill, Mai’s restaurant, Amala zone and Aga’s for lunch/dinner. For activities I would take them to the museum district, buffalo bayou park, discovery green, surfside beach and skydiving. After that I’d stop by the galleria and Montrose to do some shopping and end the week off at the Toyota center to watch the rockets play or NRG if they prefer football.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to shoutout the countless creatives I’ve met in Houston. The models, designers, MUA’s and more. I started taking photography and creative direction seriously at the beginning of this year and that is due to the inspiration i’ve received from those around me. So I just want to say thank you to everyone in Houston pursuing a creative path because it is y’all that fuel me.
