We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Centeno and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Danielle, how do you think about risk?
My main focus has always and will always be my children. We were in a situation that I needed to get us out of. Only problem was, I had no degree. I had no money of my own. It was rough. I was scared, but I was also determined to do something more with my life for us.

So, I set my pride aside and asked someone to give me a loan of $300 with the promise I would pay them back with interest…and I did within a month of launching Boujee Box.

I bought all my supplies with that loan. I created my own logo. I created my social medias. I marketed my boxes every chance I could. I created relationships with fellow small businesses. I devoted every second of my life to my business and my kids.

I took a risk and this past year has been so incredible because of it. I’ve never felt more independent in my life.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I don’t look for what sets me apart from others. I understand that I am not the only person who can make a box full of cheese and meat beautiful.

I just do what feels right and I happen to love symmetry. My boxes are balanced, colorful and delicious.
I love focal points that catch your eye and I do the same with my grazing tables as well.

I focus on the flow and let my mind piece it together until it comes out exactly how I envisioned it.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to Uchi. Hands down one of best spots to eat in Houston. Their Hama Chili and Brussel sprouts are absolutely amazing.

I love to go dancing, so anywhere Downtown or Midtown. Frank’s Pizza as a nightcap is euphoria. Haha!

I am a major nerd and love to game, so Cidercade is a must. Good brew and pinball with the right people by your side is guaranteed a great time!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to thank the absolute best people I know. My righthand man and woman, Valerie and Genaro.

Without you two I would honestly be a mess. Whether it’s delivering boxes, helping me fold endless rows of salami or all the sleepless nights preparing for a huge order the next day. You guys are truly incredible. Thank you.

I also want to thank all of my customers. Every chance I get, I love to show you appreciation. I wouldn’t be where I am now without each you. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to follow my dreams and being able to provide the life I’ve always wanted to give to my children.
