We had the good fortune of connecting with David Burchett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi David, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
To create an experience for ordering apparel. We built our stores around the customer experience. All machines are upfront and centered and the rest of the store is built around the store. We want customers to see the their projects being made. This also allows us to do classes and Sip-N-Print parties to add to the experience.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
All of our staff members are artist and are extremely well versed in graphic design. I am most proud of the projects they produce daily. Our biggest challenge is training everyone in graphic design. We hold monthly professional development days. This allows the staff to come together and expand their knowledge and expertise in Photoshop and Illustrator. Everything starts with design so for us this is a huge investment to ensure we can bring any idea to fruition. It is our goal for the world to equate Plug Life to pushing boundaries and bringing goals to fruition.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Day 1. Take them to Bacon and Jam for breakfast. The best breakfast spot in Chicago.
Then goto Navy Pier for the Chicago experience.
Day 2
Take them to Swallow Cliff so they can experience our wrestlers routine. An amazing view as well as workout.
Dinner at Giordanos. Have to experience Chicago Pizza.
Day 3
Mag Mile. Def have to show them all the shops and stores on the mag mile.
Dinner at Maxwell’s. Can’t come to Chicago and not get Maxwell’s.
Day 4.
Hyde Park. Having grown up and went to school in Kenwood, the culture is a must see in Hyde Park. Prob breakfast at Valoi’s. Dinner at Harold’s. Only in Chicago can you experience Mild Sauce.
Day 5.
Def take them to The Plug for a custom apparel experience. Def will take them to the Justice Location so Willie can really hook them up.
Dinner Barraco’s for a true Italian experience.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
All our Fashion Designers. We feed off of their creativity and inspiration. We service over a 100 different Fashion Designers nationwide. And for over a dozen of them, we make their garments from scratch. This process allows us to push the envelope. We love projects that are different step outside the normal boundaries. All our staff members are artist so this allows them to be true to their nature.
