We had the good fortune of connecting with Deandre Johnson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Deandre, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Taking risk is absolutely needed for anything you want in life. As society we are taught so often to settle or play the safe road. I learned quick at a young age the safe road wasn’t where I wanted to be at. In order to get to where I am at in life and start achieving my goals I had to take the biggest risk and that was believing in myself and investing in myself. Creative career fields are probably the riskiest yet most satisfying career field there is. You have to put yourself in the mindset that everyday you live you are taking a risk. At the end of the day we don’t know if this is our last day here but yet we take that risk when we decided to get up and go about our day. So to me risk is not only a mindset, its a life style!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am a Dancer and entertainer! I started my journey in my career at 19 y/o when I decided i wanted to live for myself and realize my dreams. It has been very rewarding in many different ways but also very challenging. Ive been told no so many times, dealt with self doubt, criticism, so many things but through it all i had to remind myself why i started doing it in the first place. i created many opportunities for myself, i believed in myself, and chose to block out negativity and focus on the positives. I have trained very hard and pushed myself beyond limits to get to where im at now. Through blood sweat and tears i am very proud of my journey as a professional dancer and entertainer its definitely not for the weak hearted but like i said before hard work and dedication can get you in many places. The thing i want my brand to say to the world is that dreams can come true, we aren’t put on this earth to settle for less than what we are worth. I want to inspire others to believe in themselves no matter if its career wise or daily life. You are worth whatever you put your mind to achieve. The main thing i learned is that failure and the word no is not the end. You only fail when you decide to give up on yourself!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Me personally I love scenic things like the beach, parks, nature etc. As well i do love to do adventurous things like amusement parks, trying new restaurants, stuff like that. I would definitely take them to one of my favorite parks (Deussen Park) i do a lot of my meditating and stuff there. Splash town, kemah boardwalk or pleasure pier definitely would be on the list. As you can tell i like being water as well lol. One of my favorite restaurants as well Mongos in pearland. Just to name a few things.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I absolutely have to credit my success to my mom and great- grandmother! Both of them instilled in me that with hard work and dedication you can achieve anything. Without their guidance and wisdom I don’t know how far I would have gotten. Both of them are no longer physically here but spiritually i know their still teaching me in so many ways. Not only them but also the amazing people that continue to support, push and motivate me when i can’t even motivate myself sometimes. Between the beautiful people ive met in person or social media they all play a part of why i continue to push and strive. Big shout out to my amazing aunt Dawnn, who from a young age we both showed interest in the arts and we motivated each other to push for what we wanted no matter what. I absolutely could have not gotten this far without her.
