We had the good fortune of connecting with Debra Mezistrano-Boer and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Debra, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I was working for other people and making them a lot of money. I noticed that wherever I went My clients would follow. So I had an “aha” moment and the encouragement of My old medical director , and went out on my own. This was the best decision I ever made. My clients were excited and I got to educate and train others in my field.
Today I am doing exactly what I was meant to do, and I can actually say I love my job.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I started out in the Medical field as a Respiratory Therapist . I was always on call, but I loved the adrenalin of working in a teaching hospital environment. I moved from Seattle to Houston Texas in 1989 and got married. I was working in Hyperbaric Medicine when I was pregnant with my daughter Kate. I wanted to get out of the hospital environment and work with people making them feel better about themselves . I went to school to become an esthetician with a baby, a job and another little one on the way. My husband was so supportive at this time. I got my Esthetician license in 2001. I got the opportunity to work in a medical spa and then a plastic surgeon’s office. where I performed laser procedures. I loved all the new technology and wanted to learn all I could, which I did. I became a clinical trainer for a Laser company and traveled around to different Physician’s offices training on the aesthetic lasers. I continued learning as there is always something new evolving in this field,
I also obtained a phlebotomy license, and I am a Certified Laser Hair Professional. I got a Plasma Lift Certificate from a wonderful Trainer in Canada(Michelle Hunt)
I am the lead Instructor for Texas Laser Institute, where I teach medical aesthetics, I am a clinical trainer, I practice Medical aesthetics at RHW med spa with Dr. Edokpayi who is wonderful and supportive. I have my own Training company( Advanced Aesthetic Adventures) in Advanced aesthetic education and I do Med Spa Consulting. where I help people become compliant when opening a spa. I am so blessed with my clients, friends and family.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would probably take them to surfside beach for a day, then we could stay at the Galvez Hotel in Galveston because it is Haunted and the stories are so interesting. We could go to the Strand to shop. We would depending on the weather go cruising in the boat on the San Jacinto River and stop at 1 of many of the beaches along the way.
One day we would go into Houston and go to the zoo and Herman Park, and then go to Rice village as they have some great Restaraunts, At night We would go to a concert at the woodlands Pavillion or of coarse TOP Golf is always fun.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
The people that have supported me and followed me : namely my clients,my students and the staff at Texas Laser Institute (Beth and Leslie) . I want to thank my husband for always supporting me and telling me how proud he is of what I’ve accomplished on my own.
