We had the good fortune of connecting with Deidra Gentry and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Deidra, we’d love to start by asking you about lessons learned. Is there a lesson you can share with us?
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to not let the world define you. Your biggest limitation is often knowledge of yourself. Changing yourself is hard and made even harder by our own biology: our brains like to maintain the status quo. But change is necessary to grow and get ahead in a company as it is in everyday life. The people who tend to excel are those that recognize evolution is a constant.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Currently, I serve as the Chief Marketing Officer for All Around Post Health. I’ve worked in the healthcare arena for sixteen years on the marketing/ business development side. I would describe my journey professionally as consistent and determined. The medical services sales industry provides a constant challenge to meet stringent quotas in a highly competitive marketplace. I started in sleep study sales for a small company right out of college and then moved into home health sales. Home health became the portion of the industry I found my passion. To help people in need and assist their loved ones with peace of mind that our clinicians will provide exemplary skilled care is a constant blessing. There are many challenges in-home health such as, medicare reimbursement changes, referral competition, quality care, and managing a remote workforce. It has not been easy to maintain a position in the industry in sales and eventually moving up to leadership. In the past, as a sales representative, I wanted to mean more to the company than my quota and the resulting census targets. I always felt that quality care and effective operations had to balance with aggressive quotas and census, and usually, sales and operations do not operate synchronically. One constant remains true: everyone is passionate about something, and professionals in this industry all have a particular passion for what we do. Finding the median to merge those passions creates dynamic teams that can accomplish the type of operations and care that matter to our patients and their families. The opportunity to lead a team of professionals that affect so many lives daily is a responsibility and challenge that makes my career enjoyable.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My parents, husband, and children are the primary people that deserve this recognition. My mother taught me by example to be generous, honest, kind with everyone, and resilient. With my work ethic and determination to succeed, I have to contribute to my father, who also taught me the true meaning of solidarity and to fight against injustice. My husband and children serve as my constant source of balance that helps me keep perspective, love, and joy. Finally, my personal relationship with my Creator provides inspiration and a value system that I apply to my core business aptitude.
